Location:
This can be a great smaller South Texas Ranch, with long time protected 100% native deer. The
ranch is currently low fenced, and is located in eastern Webb County, approximately 24 miles east
of Laredo and 23 miles west of Freer. From Hwy 59, the ranch is accessed via Welhousen Rd,
heading south for seven miles, the gate is on the east side of Welhousen. The ranch can also be
accessed from Hwy 359, being about 10 miles in from the south.
Description:
Terrain on this ranch is relatively flat with some nice rolling hills. The hilltops provide good views
and sites to build a permanent ranch headquarters . The ranch is dominated by good native South
Texas brush species, lots of Granjeno, Guajillo, Guayacan, and Blackbrush, among others, along
with native grasses and a few areas of improved grasses.
Wildlife:
The ranch deer herd is 100% native free range. No hunting in 2014 & 2015 and 2016 was
management deer hunting only. Historically the ranch has had very light hunting pressure of any
kind, with family only. The ranch has fabulous dove hunting with world class evening shoots at
many of the surface tanks.
Habitat:
The ranch has a variety of soils, Aguilares Sandy Loam covers some 44%, Moglia clay loam covers
some 27%, and Tela Sandy Loam, Maverick-Catarina Complex, and Montell Clay round out the
other types. Torres Creek passes through the front portion of the property with another drainage
on the eastern end.
Water:
The ranch has good surface water with 3 tanks and a good creek drainages to add several more.
All are known to hold water all year round and most were dug very deep by the original owner, a
well known cattleman in the area.
