We are inspiring education
Education is the
most powerful
weapon which you
can use to change
the world!
-Nelson Mandela
Our world is changing therefore our education system is
transforming. Teaching and
learning looks much different
than it did five years ago.
The transformation happening
in our education system is
known as Inspiring Education.
It is an Alberta Government
initiative designed to align the
needs of students with the
changes in the world today and
for years to come.
In Peace River School Division
we have openly embraced this
transformation.
We realize that every child is
unique. Students are not only
auditory learners, they are
visual learners and the way
they process information is
changing as the world evolves.
They need stimulation, movement, opportunities for stu-

and well.
In support of Inspiring Education, we have introduced Response to Intervention (RTI), a
teaching and learning model
provided to maximize every
student’s individual success.
RTI is not a new concept in
PRSD, we continue to integrate and grow the RTI model
in our schools and we are very
proud of the enthusiasm and
work of our staff along this
path.
This school year, two of our
high schools (Peace River High
School and Grimshaw High
School) launched High School
Redesign, an organizational
structure of high school that
provides students with greater
choice and flexibility in their
learning. In PRSD, we are planning to expand High School
Redesign in all high schools as
studies have shown the benefits this organizational structure provides our high school
students. We are seeing the
first-hand benefits high school
redesign provides students.
Wellness initiatives and supports are woven through all
school education plans through
the implementation of the
PRSD Wellness Policy. We
fully understand that in order
for students and staff to share
and learn, they must be happy
We continue to ensure technology integration is a high
priority as we know this is the
way of the future. Computers,
tablets and mobile devices are
welcome in our classrooms
and are used as tools to engage, research, teach and learn.

We are Inspiring Education
We understand our students will
use these tools for the rest of their
lives and it is important that they
are well equipped and prepared.
To support the growth of ethical
citizens, our students are encouraged and provided with opportunities to be involved in the community. This allows them to understand
through experience the power of a
community working together. We
appreciate the involvement of our
communities in our schools. Their
involvement provides students with
a feeling of support and increased
opportunities along their educational journey.
Paul Bennett
Superintendent of Schools
The changes in our education system are exciting and we are very
proud of the great work and enthusiasm of our staff, the involvement
of our parents and the support of
our school communities. Together
we provide students with an effective, flexible, engaging and enjoyable
learning experience that will allow
the students of today to be prepared for the world tomorrow.

Our little library continues to grow and we continue to get more patrons. The
Groundhog saw his shadow and you know what that means a lot more winter. In
our afterschool art class the children drew anti-bullying posters and they are
being displayed in the library, for pink day. Speaking of pink, Valentines was also
fun in the library. We had fun decorating for that as well. I also continue to work
on barcoding the books. It is a hard process, but i will work on it.

The Grade 1,2,3 class enjoyed working on a project for the science fair in Dixonville. They had
tons of great ideas and decided to use elephant
toothpaste in a volcano. We had a lot of fun
making the volcanoes. We also enjoyed experimenting with elephant toothpaste. We tried in
different shaped beakers and bottles to see
which made the best volcanic eruption.
The students also had a great time at our family
dance this month. They had tons of fun getting
out and spending time with their friends. Thank
you to everyone who came out to support the
school. The grade 1,2,3 class would also like to
thank Mrs. Skinner this month for providing
cake and cupcakes for Valentine’s day the students really enjoyed them. Hayden also brought
in some cupcakes to share with his friends thank
you!!
Congratulations to the students receiving an
award this month at our monthly assembly.
Jamie received excellence in reading, Joshua
received excellence in Math, and Ryan for great
work in class. Keep up the great work!!

It’s time to mix learning with fun !!!
February came and went very quickly for our
class. It is hard to believe another month is
over already! We had a busy month in our
class including our bowling field trip to Peace
River, yearbook students hosted a Valentine’s
Dance and we also attended a Science Fair at
Dixonville School!
Students enjoyed a fun field trip to Rock and Bowl in Peace River
at the beginning of the month. Students enjoyed getting some
exercise and had a fun day in town.
Yearbook students worked hard to host a Valentine’s Dance.
They set up the entire dance, ran the canteen as well as the
front doors and took photographs. Their hard work was much
appreciated!
Lastly, we attended the Science Fair at Dixonville School. Our
class put in lots of work at home to create individual projects. A
BIG congratulations goes out to Gabrielle, William and Zachariah
Phelps who placed 1st (at the 5th grade level), and JP and Riley
who placed 1st (at the 6th grade level). Great Work!!
Lastly, students are looking forward to fully implementing ‘Daily
5’ into our L.A. classes in the morning during the month of
March. Students have spent the last week working on ‘Read to
Self’ and have done a phenomenal job maintaining a quiet classroom and their reading stamina. Awesome work everyone!
Bullying is NOT ok. PERIOD.
