Parent/Guardian meeting Agenda At the start of the season, it is good practice to have a parents meeting with all the parents in the club. This can be done in age group teams; it sets clear expectations for the season and helps shape the behaviour of your player’s parents for the benefit of the team. 1. Welcome and introductions An opportunity to talk about: • The club’s mission statement, values, set up and background • Who you are and why you are involved with young people • Information on other key figures in club 2. Coaching Philosophy Talk about: • Your coaching philosophy in how you like the game to be played and also what standards of Behaviour and attitude you expect. • Describe PCS and the three principles. Honour Our Game – Redefine Winning – Fill the Emotional Tank. Talk about how you use these to develop players and discuss practical examples • Explain policy on game time, missing training etc. to be clear to stop problems in the future 3. Team goals and hopes for the season Let parents know what you expect from them and from their children over the season and stress positive outcomes: • Every individual’s skills will improve • Every individual will have the opportunity to participate/compete • Everyone involved with the club or organisation will enjoy the season and will have contributed to the success of the team • Every individual will be as committed to football at the end of the season as at the start, and will want to be back next year You might also want to ask parents about their expectations from the club/organisation and for the season ahead. www.scottishfa.co.uk/positivecoaching 4. Club/ parent agreement or code of conduct An opportunity to: • Discuss with the parents what they perceive their role to be over the season. • Discuss PCS and the role they can play in developing their child. Be clear on role during match days and when you as a coach are open for discussion i.e. after match might not be good time. Distribute parents PCS leaflet to all and divert to the website www.scottishfa.co.uk/positivecoaching for further information. • Agree code of conduct to set a standard of behaviour which has been shaped with the parents. 5. Logistics about the season An opportunity to talk about: • Training schedule – What nights and where will training be? • Fixtures – When & where games will be played? • Equipment needed for season – Discuss player requirements and what club will provide • Phone lists/key contacts – Distribute team contact (if permission) and key club contacts • Transport/Faculties – Club arrangements for travelling to away games and facilities the club will be using 6. Parent volunteer requirements and conduct An opportunity to: • Encourage them to take on duties which may include kit washing, refreshments or club roles including fundraiser, secretary. It is good to discuss support needed with parents as many parents will have specific skills that will be to support your club. Involving parents will also help develop a family friendly environment and a positive experience for all. • Emphasise the importance of committing to the culture of PCS and of the club – every parent has a role to play – explain that parents are expected to honour our game as well as the participants • Appoint a PCS Match day Touchline Champion www.scottishfa.co.uk/positivecoaching
