SONIA SHARMAN – BEAUTY TALK

Sonia has been running her business, Beauty Talk, for over 25 years. Beauty Talk offer permanent make-up
treatment and training, electrolysis hair removal and thread vein removal.
Sonia started her career as a freelance make-up technician in London before opening her own beauty salon in
Oxford. 15 years ago she decided to change her business focus and completed a permanent make-up course
in London’s prestigious Harley Street. Since then she has never looked back and her business has continued
to grow and prosper.
Sonia is very positive about her change of focus:
“I love working as a permanent make-up technician. It is a fabulous job creating a look that gives
people more confidence. There is no better feeling than when a client comes to the salon feeling
unhappy about how she looks and then goes out feeling great about herself.”
Sonia was a member of the initial Women and Broadband scheme in 2014-15.
Sonia found the first scheme very useful for her business. She attended training courses, networking events
and received one to one business advice. As a result of the scheme she has increased her use of Twitter and
Facebook and has just started to use Instagram to promote her business.
The actions she has taken as a result have had a direct impact on her business and led to an increase in both
customers and sales. For example, by advertising on Facebook with a click through to her website she has
improved her google rankings and as a result she now gets more enquiries from potential clients.
So what were the highlights of WAB for Sonia?
“I particularly liked the unbiased advice and the opportunity to talk to other women at different stages
of their business development. I think anyone thinking of starting a business should sign up for
schemes like WAB as they provide a good overview of how best to move your business ideas
forward.”
Since the end of the WAB scheme, Sonia has started to run her own accredited permanent make-up courses.
Getting these courses up and running has been a huge achievement for Sonia, one of which she is very proud
of.
“WAB gave me the skills and confidence I needed to run my courses and use social media to spread
the word about what I do and attract new clients and students.”
