Focus on American Sign Language
(More A S L)
The West Classroom (Anne-Marie Watson-Grant, West Classroom Specialist)
at Possibilities provides instruction to our participants in several subject areas. One
of these areas is American Sign Language (ASL).
Possibilities serves individuals with various disabilities. One of our disability areas is
deafness and hearing impairment. Our deaf and hearing impaired population always
want to feel included in our community. In an effort to meet this need, all our
participants receive basic instruction in American Sign Language. We hope that this
will foster effective communication among all our participants. Our monthly lessons
include:
 Utilizing the skills of our deaf and hearing impaired population to assist in
teaching ASL
 Learning and reviewing the ASL alphabet
 Learning new signs each month
 Completing worksheets to apply lessons learned
 Visiting the Colorado School for the Blind and Deaf on field trips
 Collaborating with the School to provide more resources and manipulatives for
our deaf and blind populations.
 Providing closed-captioned videos, when available, for our deaf and hearing
impaired individuals.
Thank you for all of your constant support in the Possibilities Program. Every month your participant will receive a copy of the” Broadcast”
to bring home, with a spotlight feature about Possibilities. This is our ongoing effort as the Possibilities Staff to have constant open
communication with HHPs and Caregivers of our community. If the Flyer happens to not make it home you can view it on the website here’s
