IN-TEXT CITATIONS (in the body of your paper) There are two ways to make in-text citations in MLA style: 1. Cite the author’s last name and the page number in parentheses immediately after the quotation or paraphrase: Side effects of sword swallowing, such as sore throat, occur when “oddshaped or multiple swords are used” (Witcombe and Meyer 1286). 2. Make the author’s name part of your sentence and cite the page number in parentheses at the end of the sentence. Witcombe and Meyer assert that side effects, such as sore throat, are most common when “odd -shaped or multiple swords are used” (1286).
