I wonder what this is? - Koala
I wonder where in the forest this animal lives? - In the trees.
I wonder what this animal eats? - Gum leaves.
I wonder what would happen to this animal if there were no
forests? - It would have nowhere to live and nothing to eat.
I wonder what other animals in the forest live in the trees? Possums, gliders, birds, insects, bats and flying foxes.
I wonder what this is? - Echidna
I wonder where in the forest this animal lives? - Under fallen
tree logs and hollows on the ground.
I wonder what this animal eats? - Ants and bugs.
I wonder what would happen to this animal if there were no
forests? - It would have nowhere to live and it would find it harder
to find the things it likes to eat.
I wonder what other animals in the forest live on the ground? Kangaroos, wombats, lizards, snakes, insects, bandicoots.
I wonder what this is? - Fairy wren
I wonder where in the forest this animal lives? - In nests built in
trees.
I wonder what this animal eats? - Small flying insects and bugs.
I wonder what would happen to this animal if there were no
forests? - It would have to find other places to build its nests, but
there might not be as many materials to build nests with. It might
also be harder for it to find food.
I wonder what other animals live in the trees? - Possums,
gliders, koalas, bats, flying foxes, insects.
I wonder what this is? - Orchid
I wonder where in the forest this flower lives? - In cool, moist
and sheltered areas under the trees in the forest.
I wonder what this flower needs to survive? - Healthy soil, clean
water and shade from the hot sun.
I wonder what would happen to this flower if there were no
forests? - It would find it very hard to find the conditions that it
likes to grow in.
I wonder what this is? - Spider
I wonder where in the forest this animal lives? - Under bark, in
fallen logs and branches, and in hollows.
I wonder what this animal eats? - Micro-organisms and smaller
insects.
I wonder what would happen to this animal if there were no
forests? - It would probably find other places to live but these
might not be as good as the places it would find in the forest.
I wonder what this is? - Lizard
I wonder where in the forest this animal lives? - Under rocks, leaf
litter, fallen tree logs and hollows on the ground.
I wonder what this animal eats? - Bugs and plants.
I wonder what would happen to this animal if there were no
forests? - It would find it harder to find good places to live and
shelter, and it would find it harder to find all the things it likes to
eat.
I wonder what this is? - Frog
I wonder where in the forest this animal lives? - Under fallen
logs, rocks and leaf litter in places close to waterways.
I wonder what this animal eats? - Insects.
I wonder what would happen to this animal if there were no
forests? - Frogs need clean waterways to stay healthy. Forests can
help keep waterways clean. Without forests frogs don’t have the
clean waterways they need to stay happy and heatlhy.
I wonder what other animals need healthy waterways in a
forest? - Waterbirds, fish, tortoises, insects, and all the other
animals that live in the forest.
I wonder what this is? - River/Pond/Creek
I wonder why this is important for a forest? - Waterways provde
fresh water for plants and animals in the forest. They provided
habitats for lots of different plants and animals in the forest, and
many of these animals are eaten by other animals.
I wonder what would happen to the forest if there were no
clean waterways? - The plants and animals in the forest would
find it harder to survive.
I wonder what this is? - Trees
I wonder why trees are important? - They provide us with clean
air, and they provide many plants and animals with habitats and
food.
I wonder what would happen if there were no trees? - Our air
would be very unhealthy and our planet would be pretty boring:
there would be far fewer animals and plants.
I wonder what this is? - Logs
I wonder what is happening in this picture? - Some trees in the
forest have been chopped down.
I wonder why this has happened? - People need trees for lots of
the things that we use: look around the room at everything made
from wood, paper or cardboard. Without trees we wouldn’t have
any of these.
I wonder if cutting down trees is a bad thing? - Humans need
trees for things like wood and paper, but we also need trees for
clean air. This is why we need to be careful that we don’t chop
down too many trees.
