Get Out of That Pit
Scripture Prayers
Psalm 40:1-3
1
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.
Day 1
Each day before you pray, do what Jesus did in John 11:41-42.
“Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I know that you always hear me.”
Your prayer could sound like this:
“Father, Your Son Jesus died and rose again to give me direct access to you. That means I can
pray like He prayed. In His name, I thank you in advance that you always hear me. I know
you are listening to me right now and that my prayers always matter.”

2 Samuel 22:4-7; Psalm 22:19b; Psalm 18:16-17,19
I call to you, Lord, who are worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. The waves of
death swirl about me; the torrents of destruction overwhelm me. The cords of my grave coil
around me. In my distress I call to you, Lord. I call out to my God. My cry comes to your ears.
O, my Strength, come quickly to help me. Bring me out into a spacious place; rescue me, Lord,
because you delight in me.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is
any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. I want to tell you of my sin and I
don’t want to cover it up. You will forgive the guilt of my sin. I confess that you are my rock,
my fortress, and my deliverer. Save me from anything that seeks to destroy me.

me to triumph.

Day 2

mouth, a hymn of praise to you.

me everything is possible for her who believes. Help me overcome my unbelief.

Lord, help me discern my errors. Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant from willful
sins; may they not rule over me. You call me blessed because my wrong doing is forgiven and
my sins are covered. Lord, when I kept silent and did not confess my sin to you, my bones
wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on
me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Help me to continue to know where I
fall into sin and help me to count on your unwavering forgiveness.

You will not grow tired or weary, Lord. You are the everlasting God, Creator of the ends of the
earth. You give strength to the weary, and increase the power of the weak. Those who hope in
you will renew their strength. The will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not be faint. I will cooperate with you to get out of this pit. Help me
to know that I labor with your energy which so powerfully works in me. Your grace is
sufficient for me; your power is made perfect in my weakness.

Day 4

Psalm 130:1-5; Romans 12:1
O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. I am in Christ and He is
my Savior. I do not need to fear condemnation from you. Your word says there is no
condemnation for those of us who are in Christ Jesus. If you kept a record of sins, who could
stand? But with you there is forgiveness. I wait for you and put my hope in your word. I want
to clothe myself in humility before you and others because you oppose the proud but give grace
to the humble.

Lord, enable me to put to death everything that belongs to my earthly nature: sexual
immorality, impurity, lusts, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. I have walked in some of
these ways, Lord, but with your power, I can get rid of things like anger, rage, malice, slander,
and filthy language from my lips. Help me not to lie, since I am taking off my old self with its
practices and am putting on my new self which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of
its Creator. I want to hold to your teachings Lord, and as I know the truth, the truth will set me
free.

Lord, please help me prepare my mind for action. Enable me to be self-controlled and set my
hope fully on the grace to be given to me when Jesus Christ is revealed. Help me not to be
downcast or disturbed from within. In all these things I am more than a conqueror through
you, my God, who loves me. I am convinced that nothing can separate me from the love you
have for me in Christ Jesus my Lord: neither death nor life, neither angels not demons, neither
the present nor future, nor any powers, neither height not depth, not anything else in all
creation.
