Practise writing
In your homework book practise
writing the days of the week and
the months of the year.
Daily homework time recommendation: 10-15 minutes each night
The school recommends reading on a daily basis and signing the Reading
Record when an adult listens to a child read. The school also recommends practicing your year group’s spellings regularly; these can also be
found in the white reading records.
The three little pigs
Read the story of the three little pigs and answer the comprehension questions.
Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. Their mother decided it was time for them to
move out of home and live on their own. The three little pigs picked a spot by the edge of the
forest and each began to build their new house. The first little pig was the oldest and
laziest. He chose to build his house from straw. The second little pig was also lazy. He
decided that straw was not warm enough and built his house from sticks. After finishing
their houses, the two little pigs spent the rest of the day dancing and playing. Meanwhile the
third little pig spent all day working hard and built his house from bricks. The big bad wolf
saw the first two little pigs dancing and playing. He thought, “What a delicious dinner they
would make.” The wolf chased the first little pig to his house of straw. He huffed and he
puffed and he blew the straw house down. The little pig escaped and ran to the second little
pig’s house of sticks. The big bad wolf came up to the house of sticks, he huffed and he
puffed and blew the stick house down. Terrified, the two little pigs ran to the third pig’s
house which was made out of brick. The big bad wolf huffed and he puffed but he could not
blow it down. He tried for hours but the house was too strong. The wolf soon gave up and
went to find dinner somewhere else. The first two little pigs realised they shouldn’t have
been so lazy and they too built their houses with bricks and lived happily ever after.
1. How many pigs are in the story?
2. Who blew the straw house down?
3. Why couldn't the wolf blow down the third
house?
4. What was the second little pig's house made from?
