FIRST EVER BLOODMOBILE SET ON NEW RIVER GVC SEPT. 10
1-1-1
For the first time in the 40 year history of the New River Community and Technical College
Greenbrier Valley Campus, a visit from the Appalachian Red Cross Bloodmobile has been scheduled
for Sept. 10.
The blood drive, hosted by the students in the Allied Health programs on the GVC and by the
Student Government Association, will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the public is invited as well as all
members of the College community.
“Giving the gift of life is the most unselfish acts a person can do,” notes Wanda Johnson, program
coordinator with the office of Student Services on the New River GVC. “It is giving a part of you to
help as many as three or four other people live.”
But, the visit to the New River GVC will also be giving vital experience to the students in the
Allied Health program and this “gift” adds to this most notable unselfish act.
“Because this is our first time, we would also welcome anyone in the community to volunteer
time to help by advising us on the various activities and duties involved in the bloodmobile. This will
help our students in addition to the rigorous training of the students by the American Red Cross,”
Johnson said.
Anyone who wishes to give blood or assist in helping or needs additional information on the
Bloodmobile may contact Johnson at 304-647-6710 or visit her office on the first floor of Greenbrier
Hall, adjoining the Student Activities Center.
New River Community and Technical College serves Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas,
Summers, Fayette, Nicholas, Webster, Raleigh, and Mercer counties and the surrounding areas and has
campuses in Beckley, Raleigh County, Bluefield/Mercer County, and Nicholas County in Summersville
as well as the Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg. Each of the campuses have an active Student
Government Association as well as other student driven honorary, service, and educational
organizations.
