Pop art and pop culture refer to the art work that evolved from mass media in the late 1950s – 1960s.
People like Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol created works of art reflecting package design,
television, advertisements, comic books, and movie stars during the pop art era. Using the computer
to create a Roy Lichtenstein comic painting has many steps involved. The computer also enables us
to incorporate a text box/thought bubble into the design just as Roy Lichtenstein did as well.
Your job is to put yourself in the shoes of Roy Lichtenstein (the famous pop artist) and describe the
process of painting in his comic book style using computer graphics. You must construct an
introduction that touches on the topic of every “body paragraph” topic in your essay, develop your
body paragraphs with supporting details, and include a valid conclusion. For your conclusion you
may use any information from your body paragraphs, or paraphrase your introduction to create a
valid conclusion.
Please write a one page single spaced response using the following guidelines. Please
use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Introduction – State the name of your favorite comic painting by Roy Lichtenstein, and
why it appeals to you (Look up the name of the painting, and include the image in your
document at the top). Briefly state that the process of using the computer to create a
work of art by Roy Lichtenstein has many steps involved. State that your artwork using
computer graphics reflects the work of Roy Lichtenstein’s art, but made simpler with a
computer as opposed to a paint brush including text boxes/thought bubbles.
Body paragraph 1 – State there are many steps involved in Adobe Photoshop used to create
a work of art that resembles a Roy Lichtenstein painting. In specific detail list all the steps
used to create a replica of a Roy Lichtenstein painting with a funny slogan or saying.
Body paragraph 2 – How was using the computer easier than painting a comic by hand?
Give three examples from your project, and support those statements with details.
Body paragraph 3 - How is your work of art similar to the historical pop art era? Please
describe at least three reasons your work is a perfect example of a Roy Lichtenstein
painting. What slogan or saying did you incorporate into your famous portrait, and why is
this slogan important to your design.
Conclusion - Once again restate your introduction, and mention your favorite Roy
Lichtenstein painting. Include any important points from your body paragraphs, and sum
up your ideas (restate/paraphrase your introduction).
