Teen Programs
ART - Introduction to Animation
Do you love animated movies, games and
digital art? Have you always wanted to make
an animated film, complete with characters,
storyboard and backgrounds? Well look further than this class, developed to teach you
how to create a storyboad, character concepts
and designs for layouts and backgrounds.
Learn to take everything covered and apply
it to make a short stop- motion animated
film, a short animated film, and a short
digital/CGI film. The course includes hands
on projects and online assignments. A course
that would prepare you with your portfolio
for post-secondary level programs in game
design or animation.
ART - Portfolio Creation
Basketball Fitness
Come join us in this intermediate/advanced
basketball program which will build upon the
fundamentals while using fitness training to
increase player’s basketball skills. Participants
in this class will work on strength and conditioning, footwork, agility, reaction, and ball
handling. Along with basketballs, players will
be utilizing strength and agility equipment.
Cooking for Teens
completion of the course, participants will
have the opportunity for a placement in a
City of Markham program.
Join us for a fun time in the kitchen with
your friends! Participants will learn how to
create healthy fast recipes for themselves,
friends and even their family. A $2.00 per
class extra food fee payable to the instructor
will be required.
Tennis
This basic recreational tennis program is
designed for both boys and girls interested
in the game of tennis. Angus Glen Tennis
Centre and is used as a development tool to
allow young children to improve their overall
tennis skills faster as they can transition to
the regular court with more ease. Half court
tennis is the first step in progressive tennis.
The transition to successful half-court tennis
will require a period of skill development
where basis coordination and cooperative
activities will lead to the development of the
basic stroke and fundamentals.
Drumming
Our qualified instructor will lead you
through basic drumming skills to enable you
to play along with your favourite songs. 4:1
student to instructor ratio will ensure one on
one time in a small group setting. Electronic
drums are provided.
High Five - Healthy Child
Development
High Five, Quality at Play program is committed to assisting children along the path
of healthy child development. High Five
has been designed to promote the safety,
well-being, and healthy development of
children. This one-day leadership course is
mandatory for anyone interested in working
for City of Markham summer camps and/or
seasonal programs.
Yoga For Teens
Yoga exercises will gently strengthen the
body, increase flexibility, improve posture,
increase lung capacity, body awareness
and self confidence. The course is designed
for students at all levels of physical ability.
Wear comfortable clothing your own yoga
mat to class.
Youth Fitness
Leadership Program
This program provides an introduction
to fitness training principles, equipment
demonstration and nutrition education in a
fully supervised environment. Participants
will learn safe and effective ways to exercise
as well as have an opportunity to develop the
basis of an active and healthy life style. They
will have access to cardiovascular and weight
training equipment.
This Leadership Program prepares youth
to volunteer in recreation programs
within the City of Markham. Youth will
enhance and develop their leadership skills
including, communication, teamwork,
program planning and time management which will give them the hands on
experience of learning how to successfully
deliver a program. Resume writing will be
included in this program. Upon successful

General Programs
This course will give art students the opportunity to develop the necessary skills for
producing a winning portfolio! Students
will create works in a variety of media, covering a wide range of art techniques. Both
the elements and principles of design will
be explored in order to encourage growth
through self-critique, creativity, technical
skills and visual problem solving. Most materials provided. Classes are based at the McKay
Art Centre with an opportunity to study the
Gallery’s collection.

Markham Mayor’s
Youth Council
A group of diverse and dedicated teens
that provide local youth with a voice by
providing input and developing initiatives
that enhance youth opportunities within
the City. The MMYC is dedicated to raising
awareness and celebrating youth, as well
as being a catalyst for change.
The MMYC is a branch of Markham
Council run by youth. Members consist of
the Mayor, Members of Council and youth
from across the City.
