rumors, gossip, and slander can hurt not only the dignity of the people around us but ourselves as well;
the Christian response to gossip will also be discussed.

have fundamental worth. This means that they have worth, regardless of image or weight.

Body Language: An Edge Issue Night on Theology of the Body The goal of this Edge Night is to make
the middle school youth aware that our bodies speak a language through our body language, facial
expressions, and the way we present ourselves.

challenge the middle school youth’s false sense of entitlement.

importance of having personal integrity as a part of their Christian lifestyle and mission.
SOBER AND ALERT: An Edge Issue Night On Drugs and Alcohol
The Golden Rule: An Issue Night on Bullying The dangers and consequences of bullying others. The
youth will understand that every person deserves respect because we are made in the image and likeness
of God.
Modest is Hottest: Modesty The goal is also to help them understand that modesty is not only about
what they wear, but knowing the body is sacred.

Hope In the Lord: An Edge Issue Night on Depression *This night requires some extra preparation. Before the night, make sure to educate the Core Members about the topic of depression. It is also
important to review the requirements of your diocese in dealing with middle school youth who may
share issues about depression or more serious thoughts and/or actions. If there are no policies in your
diocese, it would be important to report issues that a middle school youth shares with the Edge leader. If
possible, have counselors on hand who are comfortable working with the middle school age group.
The middle school youth will take a deeper look into the serious topic of depression and how this is
manifested in their lives. The sessions will also help the middle school youth to seek Jesus Christ to
help them, as well as their friends and family when they experience depression.

Mardi Gras: An Edge Social Night The goal of this social night is for the middle school youth to have an
opportunity to have fun in a safe and welcoming environment, and to also learn more about the history
and Catholic roots of Mardi Gras. Social nights aid in breaking up the catechetical nights and also
provide an opportunity to build community not only among the youth but also for the Core Members to
continue to get to know the youth.

opportunity to get to know one another better by celebrating their birthdays.

know other youth in the group. Socials are typically a good way to gain interest from new youth or to
break down cliques and encourage teens to meet new people. It is a great way to break up some of the
teaching nights or to gain momentum for the beginning of a new semester or youth ministry year.
Crazy Kickball: An Edge Social Night The middle school youth will grow in community and get to
know one another in the group. Socials are typically a great way to invite new youth, breakdown cliques
and re-energize the community.
Back to the Beach: An Edge Social Night The middle school youth will grow in community and get to
know other youth in the group. Socials are typically a good way to gain interest from new youth,
breakdown cliques and/or gain momentum to start a new semester or youth ministry year.
Edge Olympics: A Social Night This is a social night to get the youth excited about the Summer
Olympics. The night is an opportunity for the youth to bond with those on their team and enjoy some
fun competition.
Gifts and Talents: A Social Night The middle school youth will grow in community and get to know
other youth in the group. The youth will be encouraged to get involved in activities by focusing on their
gifts and talents.
Edge Night at the Movies: A Social Night The goal of this Edge Night is to develop community and
fellowship among the youth while also challenging them by catechizing using a popular movie.
Capture Your Audience: A Social Night The middle school youth will grow in community and get to
know other youth in the group by working together in strategic competition. Socials are typically a good
way to gain interest from new youth, break down cliques and/or gain momentum to start a new semester
or youth ministry year.
Light the Fire: A Social Night The goal for this Edge Night is to create a fun and welcoming
environment to foster relational ministry and community in your ministry.
Relay Races: An Edge Social Night The goal for this Edge Night is to create a fun and welcoming
environment to foster relational ministry and community in your ministry.
Lights Out: An Edge Social Night The goal for this Edge Night is to create a fun and welcoming
environment to foster relational ministry and community in your ministry.
Idol Chef: An Edge Social Night The goal of this Edge Night is to create a fun and welcoming
environment to foster relational ministry and community in your ministry. The youth will also share
their talents in the culinary, dance and vocal areas as they cook, dance and sing throughout the night.
Donuts: An Edge Social Night The goal for this Edge Night is to create a fun and welcoming
environment to foster relational ministry and community in your ministry. The youth will also develop a
plan to serve the parish.
