BOOK CLUB ISSUE 1
Due back
Wednesday 15th February
Welcome Back
What a wonderful start to our year. I don’t think we
have ever had such an easy beginning to a year. In
the main our new students, especially the Reception
students, settled into their new routine very easily.
I think we should thank the staff for making the
beginning of the year so successful. Most staff
spent many, many hours preparing their classroom
and planning for the term during their holidays. This
certainly made the start of the year much easier for
all.
Important Diary Dates
Next week we will have our annual Parent
Information Night. The Junior Primary session will
be from 6.00pm- 6.30pm; Middle Primary (years 3, 4,
and 5) from 6.30pm -7.00pm and Upper Primary –
7.00pm – 7.30pm. The evening is an opportunity for
parents to meet their child’s teacher; hear about
classroom expectations, practices and processes;
hear about the behaviour management strategies
used in the class; look at your child’s books etc. It is
Students who are on school grounds before 8.30am and after 3.30pm are not supervised
and the school is not able to take responsibility for them. Before 8.30am students need
to wait under the shelter near the staffroom and after 3.30pm they are asked to come
to the office so we can supervise them.
DATE: 9th February 2017 TERM: 1
WEEK: 2
Quote: “You learn something every day if you pay attention.” - Ray LeBlond
not a parent interview time but it
may be an opportunity for you or
the teacher to establish a time for
an interview. We hope all families
will be available to attend the
evening.
Parent, teacher, student interviews
will be held 14th to 24th of March.
Your child’s teacher will send you a
booking slip early in March. Please
make this a diary note.
Staffing
We have several new staff joining
us this year. Sarah Powell has the
Year 4 class;
Samantha
Beales
is
Health/PE for the term;
teaching
Victoria Xerri is teaching the year
6’s on Fridays. We are so pleased to
have these new teachers join our
staff.
The structure of the school is:Two Rec/1 Julie Hall & Helen
Henschke
Year 1 – Mandy Wild
Year 2 – Kirsty Stokoe & Alison
Kyloh
Years 2/3 – Anne Thomas
Year 3 – Jaclyn Rich
Year 4 – Sarah Powell
Year 4/5 – Michael Rostig & Marg
Underwood
Year 5 – Kylie Murray and Courtney
Adams
Year 6 – Catherine O’Neil and
Victoria Xerri
Two Year 6/7 classes – Emilie
Mazis and Sally Keane
Technology is being taught by Mary
Galouzis on Mondays and Tuesdays
and
by
Michael
Rostig
on
Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The
balance
of
youth
and
experience is obvious in our
teaching cohort and the addition of
Technology as a focus across the
school is very exciting.
We are also very excited about the
appointment of Joshua Cliffe as the
new BOSCH Director. Joshua
is
very enthusiastic, knowledgeable
and committed to the on-going
improvement
of this service. We have seen many
changes in the short time Joshau
has been here and we are looking
forward to our service becoming
even better in the future.
Governing Council
Monday 20th February is the AGM
of our Governing Council. I would
like to thank the following retiring
members – Nicole Rudd, Alex
Stokoe,
Rita
Gallas,
Sahar
Rosenzweig, Mandy White, Kelli
Howett and Stephen Garrett.
Although retiring from their last
two years of Governing Council
membership, I am hoping these
members will consider standing to
be on the Governing Council for
another 1-2 years. Jenny Doecke,
Robyn Salfischberger and Shannon
Ellard will continue on the Governing
Council. I am also hoping others will
volunteer to be on Governing Council
this year too. We only meet twice a
term and provide feedback and
direction to the school. This is a
very important group within our
school and we would like parents to
consider being a part of this team.
Nomination forms are enclosed
elsewhere in this newsletter.
Emergency Action Plan
Check our web site to see our
Emergency Action Plan and our new
Site Improvement Plan.
Learning
Program
Assistance
As you know John Irlam is unable to
continue to manage this programme
and unfortunately our succession
plan did not eventuate.
If you are interested in supporting
this programme by yourself, with
another please let us know. We do
have a parent prepared to do the
paper work which would mean the
LAP Co-ordinator would only need to
match students and mentor, and
support the mentor with the
programme. This would be a much
smaller role than that of John and
Marina.
Please
consider
this
opportunity to support our students
and
provide
them
with
an
opportunity to shine.
Student Support Services
Children and young people who need
extra help are often referred to
the Student Support Services team
by their teacher.
Student Support Services include
social workers, behaviour support
coaches, psychologists, special
educators, speech pathologists who
provide support to children and
teachers in state schools and
preschools.
If your child’s teacher feels that
your child or their class as a whole
is having difficulties they may
engage with the Student Support
Services team regarding these
difficulties. Your teacher will
discuss this with you and obtain
your consent before making a
formal request for support for your
child.
For more information, speak with
your preschool or school or visit
www.decd.sa.gov.au.
Volunteering
at
school
screening policy (January 2016)
We would just like to remind you of
the changes to volunteering at
schools.
Police Clearance is necessary:
-For a parent/guardian/volunteer
who takes part in an activity which
does NOT involve their own child.,
eg, canteen, transporting children
etc.
-For people attending overnight
camps and school sleep overs.
Screening is NOT necessary
When volunteering in an activity
which involves their own child.
RAN (Respond to Abuse and
Neglect) Training— If trained in
2016 your training now lasts for 3
years. If trained prior to 2016 you
will need to be retrained. Everyone
who works/volunteers at our school
needs to do this training. Training
dates will be announced shortly.
From
the
Officer
Finance
Material and Service Charges
invoices will be sent home on Friday.
Please check your child’s bag after
school on Friday.
Primary School SportSAPSASA
Our school is part of the Barossa &
Light SAPSASA District. Students
in years 4-7 are eligible to
participate in District and State
Carnivals in Swimming, Athletics and
Cross Country. These selections are
based on performances in District
Carnivals.
Teams
in
Softball,
Football, Netball, Hockey, Soccer,
Tennis and Cricket are selected
after trials held in our district and
then compete in State Carnivals in
and around Adelaide.
State Selections are made at trials
after individual students have
nominated
via
the
SAPSASA
website. State teams are no longer
selected from State Carnivals, with
the
exception
of
Athletics,
Swimming and Cross Country.
Canteen
News
Welcome to 2017. The canteen
opened last Wednesday and we
would like to thank everyone for
making it a successful week. The
2017 pink price list was given to all
students to take home last week. If
you didn’t receive a copy you can
collect another from the office or
the canteen. Please take a minute to
read the general information for
the canteen which is printed on the
back of the price list. It is most
important that you put the CLASS
TEACHER’S NAME on the bag and
NOT the room number. This ensures
your child’s lunch order goes to the
correct classroom.
Would you like to volunteer in the
canteen? We currently have a small
dedicated group who volunteer on
Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
Volunteers require the appropriate
volunteer training – see an
explanation
of
this
training
elsewhere in the newsletter or
speak to Chris or Donna in the
canteen or Kerry in the office if
you require further information.
We would also like to encourage
parents and caregivers to consider
including a frozen icepack (or
frozen bottle of water) in their
children’s lunchboxes they bring
along to school each day. Food which
has not been refrigerated for more
than two hours deteriorates and can
cause illness if eaten.
Breakfast Club
We started back this week in
Breakfast Club, Monday and
Friday 8.30am and also toast
Tuesday.
Just a reminder that Breakfast
is the most important meal of
the day.
Any volunteers and donations
are greatly appreciated—please
drop off at office or see me.
