This handbook is an update inspired by the original 1980 edition of Conversion
Tables & Technical Notes compiled by David W. Cogswell, FAIO. While the conversion tables remain essentially unchanged from the 1980 edition, other tables
and charts have been expanded by Robert J. Vaughan, FAIO. In addition, the
formulas on pages 8 and 9 have been made more practical by presenting them in
a format that can be entered directly into a computer spreadsheet.

SOME FORMULAS USED IN PIPE ORGAN BUILDING
As computers are owned and used by practically everyone, pipe organ formulas are herewith listed in an easy-to-use spreadsheet format in lieu of standard formulas requiring powerful
scientific calculators. While cell numbers A1, B1, C1, and D1, Etc. are cell locations for example only, cell usage can be place anywhere in the spreadsheet. Be sure to use correct cell
cell numbers while typing in the formulas when using different cell locations than those indicated in these examples. Typed input data is displayed as typed in the input cells and formula
cells display only as answers and not formulas. Make sure formulas are typed precisely as indicated. They won't work with just one simple error. It helps to label specific cell use with
labels typed in adjacent cells. Be sure to format the cells used for computations with number format with the desired decimal resolution. Using different cell fill colors helps differentiate
between input cells and formula/answer cells. If numbers and formulas are typed into cells A1, B1, C1, etc. as listed below, they can be dragged as a group anywhere in the spreadsheet
and cell numbers referenced in the formulas will automatically adjust to their new cell locations.
All pipe scale measurements are in metric and the reference scale number 1 equals a diameter of 1.00156 meter. All halving ratio measurements for a number of pipes in a range include
the first and last pipes of that range. For these formulas to work use the 17th, 18th, 19th or whatever pipe number in the measurements, not the 16th, 17th 18th or whatever step number.
