JULY 2016
When we think about inspiration, what comes to mind is usually
ordinary people who have done extraordinary things that inspire us. We
appreciate when someone has the ability and willingness to be selfless.
Examples are Mother Theresa, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr.

POP, SPARKLE AND BANG!
Several countries around the world, including France, Canada, and the
United States, will set off fireworks this month to celebrate a special day.
The very first fireworks were made in China over 2,000 years ago, and
most of the fireworks used today are still created there.
What is your favorite color or type of firework? For a long time, fireworks
only came in orange and white. Now, the makers of fireworks use chemicals, metals, salts and even charcoal to create the rainbow of colors we
see during a show. They also pack pieces of cardboard into the firework
case to create different shapes and patterns.
In 2014, Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates, set the world
record for the largest fireworks display. They set off over 450,000
fireworks in about six minutes – that’s more than 1,000 fireworks
going off every second!
Most of the time fireworks shows are a lot smaller than Dubai’s, but
fireworks are always dangerous. It’s never a good idea to play with
fireworks without an adult, and you should always follow these
safety rules:
1. Never light or hold fireworks – that’s a job for adults.
2. Stay away from fireworks that have been lit – even if they look like
they won’t go off, they still can.
3. Keep your pets away from fireworks – the sounds and bright colors
can scare them.
