Supplying equipment for demanding applications;
working with world-class manufacturers; and
deploying trained technicians in extreme
environments - at the edge of the frontier for
world-class suppliers of industrial and commercial
processors, you’ll find Tundra Process Solutions Ltd.
Tundra Process Solutions Ltd. brings uniqueness to several industries
with their ability to supply the majority of the equipment to a
full facility and offer in-house custom process solutions for any
application. The Calgary-borne business has built its success on
supplying exactly what the customer needs; just ask manager of
information services, Derek Bairstow. He’ll tell you that Tundra’s
growth is accelerating 50% year-over-year and now with SAP®
Business One and implementation partner Vision33, he’s forecasting
that trend to continue.
What started as a single division distributor in the oil and gas instrumentation industry, has since grown into a robust
multi-divisional operation that employs 150 people. Through strategic acquisition and focused growth, Tundra now offers
support services in conjunction with the equipment and instrumentation that it sells.
From extracting oil from the ground using one of its prefabricated oil
and gas facilities all the way to building the loading stations to process
the oil upstream, Tundra supplies comprehensive solutions for its
customers.”We pride ourselves not only on the quality of our products,
but also in our ability to supply custom packages and service what we
sell,” explains Derek Bairstow, Manager of Information Services, Tundra
Process Solutions Ltd. “We have worked to gain a good understanding
of what our customers need and that’s how we’ve grown; if it makes
sense for them, it makes sense for us.”
Tundra Process Solutions Ltd. works with an extensive
network of partners including Toshiba International
Corporation; a world leader in the design and
manufacturing of motors, motor controls, and power
electronic products. Key partnerships like these have
helped the company to expand its service offerings
with a more comprehensive solution for its customers.

that’s how we’ve grown; if it makes sense for them, it makes sense for us.”

Providing High Performance in a High Pressure Environment
By working directly with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) companies, Tundra is able to extend the reach
of its solutions to large networks of customers. Leveraging its partnerships, the company has diversified its offering beyond
instrumentation. With eight business divisions, Tundra has grown to represent leading manufacturers in diverse industries,
including artificial lift, motors & drives, boilers & water treatment, panels & buildings, pipe, valve & actuation, instrumentation &
controls, and service & support.
Installing and commissioning many of the products offered, Tundra’s business processes had become more complex and
sophisticated. Driving the need for a new business management solution was the requirement for better control over these
complex partnering relationships and business processes.
A Disconnected System
When Tundra was a one division company, its small business
accounting software, QuickBooks, provided the financial backend.
However, as the company grew, more functionality was needed
to support the project management side of the business. Since
QuickBooks did not offer the ability to integrate with other
applications, there were a number of manual integration points.
Vision33 Customer Success Story
There was no easy way to direction data into a
centralized location for analysis. “Our former system
was very manual and involved a lot of human
involvement - we couldn’t grasp metrics beyond the
financials from QuickBooks,” recalls Derek Bairstow.

Building Stronger Relationships
As the competitive landscape started to heat up, exclusive agreements with world leading manufacturers enabled Tundra to
keep its cool by diversifying its offering. The trouble was that these relationships required a great deal of transparency; much
more than its small business accounting application could provide. Derek explains, “We have many exclusive agreements with our
manufacturers who have monthly, quarterly, and yearly revenue targets. We needed a way to easily access this data to ensure that
we are on target and can maintain our relationships with key suppliers.” QuickBooks did not provide the ability for Tundra to do
forecasting or create much needed queries that provide insight into the company’s operations within a given period.”
A Fitting Solution for a Growing Business
With a steely resolve, the company sought to implement a new ERP solution that
would enable them to manage growth and support future plans to expand product
line offerings and services. A committee was created to discuss the objectives of
the implementation. In doing due diligence the company came to realize that in
choosing an ERP solution, it was also important to choose the right implementation
partner to give them the confidence to proceed.
“Choosing SAP Business One made a lot of sense for our path of growth. We now
use it to manage the entire business; from financials, inventory management, sales
orders, to POs to full on project management,” says Derek.
Meeting the Exact Client Specifications
Having used SAP Business One in a previous role in his career, Derek was familiar with what SAP Business One could do. However,
the deciding factor was the implementation partner.
“We began working with Vision33 over two years ago. During this time, we have seen the company also experience growth. The
nice thing with Vision33 is that the level of service and attention we receive remains the same,” explains Derek. “The difference
now is that Tundra has greater access to knowledgeable and qualified consultants. This gives us the confidence that whatever the
challenge is, we can overcome it with our consultants.”
As part of the solution, Tundra has also taken advantage of the Vision33 TOTAL Care, an industry leading customer support program.
The program includes bi-weekly training sessions for Tundra’s employees so that everyone is able to fully leverage SAP Business One.
And with weekly web chats, management is able to refresh their knowledge of the application or network with other professionals to
gain insight into how other SMEs are overcoming growing business challenges through the application.
With Vision33’s massive network of consultants, we have the big benefit of a large
pool of available resources. There is a real team approach to solving implementation
challenges; leveraging knowledge of the entire team to keep the implementation
project moving forward.”

Opening the Valves to Real-Time Information
SAP Business One was just the solution to keep the company on course with the competition, and help manage the numerous
acquisitions, product line, and services expansions.
Working with Vision33 implementation consultants, Tundra was able to achieve visibility across all divisions of the business.
“We’ve added a lot of reporting around inventory,” adds Derek. “We now know our inventory values by division, slow moving
inventory, and how we are using manufacturing resource planning (MRP).”
