

During the 2013 awards ceremony
at the 31st Annual Conference of
the Texas Association Against
Sexual Assault (TAASA), Regional
Victim Crisis Center (RVCC)
Executive Director, D. Diane Dotson
(left), was presented the Vivian
Miles Lifetime Achievement Award.
Victims Served: 1,324 victims received crisis intervention and comprehensive victim
services. (+7% increase since 2012)
274 new victims under the age of 17 were served through specialized counseling. There
is no-charge to the victims for our services. (+8.3% increase since 2012)
Violence Prevention & Education: 19,618 K-12 students, and young adults in college
and the community received age appropriate evidenced based curricula which teaches
violence is not ok.
4,823 Community members and professionals received continuing education.

New Program: Big Country CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was added
under the umbrella of RVCC’s services and is in operation in 2014 with volunteers
appointed by the court to assist the court and CPS in the best outcome for children in
foster care. This program has received funding from United Way of Abilene.

Collaborative Partners: Abilene/Taylor County Child Advocacy Center, law enforcement
and prosecutors in our six county region, medical professionals, Serenity Foundation,
Noah Project & other service agencies.
82% of sexual assaults against children are committed by an acquaintance or family member (U.S. Dept. of Justice, 2008).
Locally, the figure is 97% (Abilene/Taylor County Child Advocacy Center).
