September 26, 2016 Week 7 Dear 2nd Grade Parents, Curriculum for this week: Religion: Begin Unit 2, The Promised Land, as the Israelites wander in the wilderness; hear how God gave Moses the Ten Commandments and see how they still apply to us today. Reading: Finish our Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night unit by reviewing characterization, enjoying reading groups, discovering what constellations are and inventing our own. I could use 1-2 parent volunteers for Reading groups on Friday, 9/30, from 10:30-11:30. Spelling: Finish Unit 2 by practicing spelling surprise words and taking our tests. Phonics: Practice finding and reading words with consonant blends. Grammar: Review identifying the predicate of a sentence. Writing: Begin our Unit on Writer’s Voice. Math: Begin Chapter 2, 2-digit place value, as we practice making numbers with tens and ones and looking at different ways to show the same number by writing numbers in word form and expanded form. Science: Transition from our nutrition unit to our prairie/grassland habitat unit as we see how we can use food scraps to help the soil; learn about earthworms and introduce the worm compost bin to our classroom. Second Step: Continue Unit 1 on Skills for Learning as we learn how to be assertive. Handwriting: Begin our Handwriting Without Tears curriculum! Meet and get to know our 7th grade classroom buddies!
