YEAR 1 RECEPTION Helped the Octonauts by taking part in a floating and sinking day. At the end of the day they made a boat with their parents/ grandparents and then tested it to see if it floated! We continued with our dinosaur topic and melted chocolate to make dinosaur nests. We built papier mache volcanoes and used vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to make “eruptions”. We also made lava lamps and used a green screen app to put ourselves in dinosaur scenes. YEAR 2 “DANCING RAISINS” Raisins were placed in a cup of lemonade. Children watched as the bubbles took the raisins to the top of the cup then back down to the bottom when the bubbles burst. YEAR 3 Made a pattern with skittles on a plate, then added water to see what would happen. They saw the colour run as it dissolved and after a while the sugar also started to dissolve. They talked about absorption of water with different papers and learnt the word chromatography. Year 3 also designed an experiment about plants ready for after half term. YEAR 4 Year 4 looked at what happens when you put mentos in coke and if there was any difference depending on the amount put in. YEAR 5 – LAVA LUNACY YEAR 6 We are very excited to inform you that we have arranged and funded a visit from Robin Hood for the Year 2 Sherwood Trip! Robin Hood together with his Merry Men will take the children and staff on a tour of Sherwood forest, telling tales and singing songs. This will be followed by a medieval shield design activity. ****** Is anybody interested in helping run the PFA? We are looking for a new treasurer and a Chair. Without a PFA to help subsidise trips and events such as Robin Hood our children will miss out on opportunities and trips will become more expensive. Please speak to Mrs Dent if you are able to help, thank you. Year 6 conducted an experiment to see if water, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda reacted to inflate a balloon on top of a bottle. We made lava lamps using oil, water, food colouring and Alka-Seltzer. We mixed them together to see what happened. We also tried with salt instead of Alka-Seltzer to see the difference in reaction. 3
