APOLOGY POEM

APOLOGY POEM
One of America’s greatest poets,
William Carlos Williams, wrote the
following classic poem of apology:
This Is Just To Say
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold.

Have you ever done something that
was not a good idea, but that you
really weren’t sorry for doing?
Let the examples inspire you to write
your own apology poem!
You Should Know
I gave your goldfish
a few drinks of Coke,
And now they’re floating
On their backs.
Forgive me.
They looked so thirsty.
Besides, I didn’t make them drink it.
OH, OH
I put bubble gum
in my sister’s hair,
and now she’ll have to
cut a lot of hair to remove it.
I asked her to forgive me.
But she really did look funny
with purple ‘goo’ in her bangs!
Apology
I have eaten
the big piece of cherry pie
Which I’m sure you were saving
for your own dessert.
But the pie was delicious,
and you wouldn’t have wanted
all of those calories
anyway!

This is just to say
That I made a large donation to charity.
I know that you’ll be very happy that it’s in
your name.
I donated all your clothes to Goodwill. The
man who took the clothes wanted me to
thank you very much (even though he said
the needed fumigation). So….thank you.

I just wanted you to know that I borrowed
your baseball and bat. I hit an incredible
pop up right through Mrs. Vasley’s living
room window. I admit it, I was chicken and
ran. Don’t worry, though. I saw her pick up
the bat with your name and address on it,
and I’m certain she’ll get it back to you. By
the way, your baseball’s a little ratty. I
think you need a new one.

I thought you should know
that I told that boy you have a crush on
how you feel about him.
I knew you didn’t have the courage to tell
him,
so I thought I’d help.
MY APOLOGY POEM
Write an apology for something you
have done or might have done that
was not a good idea, but that you
weren’t really sorry for.
