Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School Freshman Placement Tests

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School
Freshman Placement Tests
Placement tests are offered by Brebeuf Jesuit’s Mathematics, English, World Language, and Social Studies
departments to determine the course level best suited for each student. Students only need to take the placement
exam(s) in the area(s) in which they have an existing academic record or interest and would find the entry level course
repetitive. Students not taking the respective exam will be placed in the entry level course.
There will be additional information about the upcoming placement tests during Curriculum Night, on Sunday,
April 21 from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. or Wednesday, April 24 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
English: Honors English Placement Application
Students interested in taking Honors English for their first year at Brebeuf Jesuit are invited to take an exam that will
contain a brief grammatical section that will test their understanding of basic grammar and a written component in
which students will be asked to respond in written form to a prompt based on a poem they receive that day. If you
have any questions, please contact Chuck Fanara in the English Department, 524.7007, or [email protected].
Social Studies: Honors World History and Civilization Placement Test
Any student interested in this course must take the placement exam, consisting of short essay and multiple choice
questions. The test will be given to determine the level of the student’s reading and writing skills, critical thinking
abilities, and depth of historical knowledge, as well as skills and interest in world history and civilization. For more
information, please contact Matthew Lo in the Social Studies Department, 524.7068, or [email protected].
Language: French, Latin, and Spanish Placement Tests
Students who have taken French, Spanish, or Latin in middle school and plan to continue studying the same
language at Brebeuf Jesuit should take the placement exam to determine possible placement in the level at which they
demonstrate proficiency. For more information, please contact Peggy Poole in the Language Department, 524.7042,
or [email protected].
Mathematics: Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry Tests
Students who have taken at least one full year of algebra and are interested in being considered for Honors
Algebra II or higher should take this exam. For more information, please contact Layton Elliott in the Mathematics
Department, 524.7030, or [email protected].
