House wine needs to be good value but also one we put our name to. Crisp, citrussy, a bit of honey.
Drink it all day long…
Guava meets baked apple. Easy drinking heaven
If this was an apple it would be a Golden Delicious. If you like your Pinot Grigio, you will love this...
Described by a legendary wine critic as "One of the finest and best value Sauvignon Blancs on the
planet". Not a bad recommendation…
We were keen to have some old school Vinho Verde on the list so were thrilled when we discovered
this. Lovely fruity acidity, perfect with some seafood
If you've not tried Fiano before then please give it a go. Great on its own, fantastic with food.
Rachel's favourite…
Crowd pleasing and delicious. Gooseberries? Tick. Cut grass? Tick. Zingy? Tick.
Well we could say pears, honey, nuts. Or we could just say it's a cracker from the Languedoc in SW
France. And an achingly trendy grape…
Juicy apricots and peaches and the taste of Spanish stony soil. The best all-rounder on the list…
A cracking wine. Chosen by the Ship Inn's owners as simply their favourite Sauv Blanc from South
Africa
You can either have cheap chardonnay or good chardonnay - and this is delicious. Mouthwatering,
citrussy, the best value chardonnay we could find. And we tried a lot of them…
Just so much going on in the glass. Look out for grapefruits, vanilla, peaches - a "beaut" of a wine.
The lovely Fiona and Matt make this beautiful boutique wine - and it is just gorgeous. Please try it
– lime and grapefruits and, well, New Zealand…
A great producer and a great wine. Delicious, delicious, delicious. The Kiwis rightly get lots of
plaudits for their Sauvignons, but in our view this is Sauv Blanc at its finest
When you’ve visited a winery, picked their grapes, and dined among the vines, you sort of have to
list their wines. The fact that the wine is delicious also helps…
Decadent, luscious, full, deep. Simply stunning. Not cheap but, well, because you're worth it...

We just had to have a ‘C de P’ on the list and this is just wonderful. Classic Southern Rhone (50:50
Syrah and Grenache) and just fills the glass with spicy blackberries, liquorice and moreishness. Ask
us to decant this for you and it will open up beautifully...

SPARKLING
Named after the Greek goddess of the moon, which has nothing to do with this lovely little wine,
which is full of soft, spicy cherries and oh so drinkable. Blend of grapes incl. Nero D’Avola
One of two classic "go to" reds on the list. Guaranteed to please.
Cracking Merlot at a cracking price
We love this winery so much, a stunning spot in the Cape - and the vineyard owner Julian is an old
friend of the Ship Inn. This is just a great value and delicious all-rounder.
Another cracking boutique winery in Marlborough, producing a Pinot Noir that we love

We tasted this by accident and said 'Ja!' straightaway. Gorgeous fruit, no oak, but boy does it
deliver. Highly recommended
Kaiken means wild goose. So no need to 'chase' around for the best food wine on the list. Berries,
cherries, spices and a sprig of mint. And a tiny hint of oak…
The other classic "go to" reds on the list. Guaranteed to please.
Delicious easy drinking red from a little known winery in an unfashionable country. You won’t have
tried this before but please do. Juicy red and black fruits
Is it just me or is good claret just really expensive these days? Well, this will help you change your
mind. This is proper claret - for those times when only Bordeaux will do…
There's a reason that two of our three Italian reds come from Sicily, and this wine shows why.
Intense fruit. As warm and long-lasting as a hug from…
Our good friend Oscar introduced us to this wine, so the Oscar for most crowd pleasing wine goes
to…Izadi. Spicy red, everything you love about rioja, none of the things you don't.
Vondeling's delicious 'premium' Shiraz. A wine so good that we broke our golden rule - we have two
wines from this estate on the list. Wild berries and chocolate in a glass, Simply stunning…
Syrah and Grenache (so same as the Chateauneuf above) but softer, silkier and (whisper it) maybe
better value? But that's like comparing Real Madrid to Barca…..
Talking of Barca….we're off to Catalonia. Graham the boss loves his Priorats, so if you see him
lurking then persuade him to buy you a bottle of this. Though he might ask to share it with you.
100% grenache/garnacha…
Our wine merchant's tasting notes say it is "Sophisticated berries, plums and pine trees". We say it
is "a bloody delicious red which would go well with a juicy steak or a cheese board. Or with a rainy
day." Simply a gorgeous Italian red.

Bright and crisp and oh so bubbly. Lovely prosecco
See above - but pink.
The original "Champagne Charlie" (true story) - the house of Heidseck makes great, and great
value, "proper" champagne.
