Guide to Replacement of X-Axis Drive Belt Guide to Replacement of the X-Axis Drive Belt This guide describes the necessary steps to replace the x-axis drive belt: 1. Place the autosampler on a flat surface (Figure 1-1) and turn the unit off. Figure 1-1. Front view of ASX-520 Autosampler. 2. Remove the two Kynar thumb screws from the Y-axis home block (Figure 1-2). Figure 1-2. View of Y- axis home block with Kynar thumbscrews. 2 Guide to Replacement of the X-Axis Drive Belt Figure 1-3. Z-drive removed from arm assembly. 3. Remove the whole Z-drive assembly from the arm by pulling the whole Z-drive assembly forward and off the autosampler arm (Figure 1-3). Figure 1-4. View of rinse station. 4. Once the Z-drive assembly is removed, remove the rinse station (Figure 1-4). Turn the rinse station ¼ turn counter-clockwise while pulling up. Also, the tubing located at the bottom of rinse station will have to be removed or moved aside (Figure 1-5). 3 Guide to Replacement of the X-Axis Drive Belt Figure 1-5. Remove the 5 screws (Figure 1-9) and with the arm tube in the extreme left position, pull the shield forward and off. Figure 1-9. View of shield being removed. 9. Remove side plate screws on top, front and back (Figure 1-10). Figure 1-10. View of side plate screws. 10. Loosen set screw with a 1/16” Allen wrench (Figure 1-11). Figure 1-11. View of motor attached to main board. 12. With a rubber mallet, tap the side plate to remove it from the chassis. Remove 4 bolts (Figure 1-13) with a 9/64 Allen wrench. Figure 1-13. View of 9/64” bolts to be removed. 13. Remove the faulty belt and replace with the new belt. When inserting the new belt, make sure the belt is around the gear on the motor and leads face the rear or bottom(Figure 1-14). Figure 1-14. View of belt on gear motor. 7 Guide to Replacement of the X-Axis Drive Belt 14. Replace bolts and tighten while holding slight tension toward the bottom of the side plate. (Toward left in Figure 1-15) Figure 1-15. View of replacing bolts while holding tension toward bottom of the plate. 15. Replace side plate on chassis and ensure that belt is around gear on guide screw (as shown in Figure 1-16). Tap side plate onto chassis, while aligning the x-lead screw and guide shaft. If wave washers fall out, replace under lead screw bearings. Figure 1-16. View of lead screw, motor gear and belt. 16. Replace side-plate screws and tighten set screw. To get belt on gears, start with having the belt on the motor gear and start on lead screw gear, rotate lead screw to get belt seated correctly on the gear. 17. Remember to attach motor to main board when reassembling the unit. 8
