Interview a Word
Have students work in small groups or pairs for the game "Interview
a Word." To play, one student/team selects a secret word using a
prefix, suffix, or root word that has been introduced during class. The
other student/team then has the opportunity to ask up to 5 questions
to get clues about the secret word before they guess what it is. Each
correct guess receives one point. Play can continue as long as desired
or until one team has earned 5 points.
Meeting Individual Needs
Before You Begin
Set up the pocket chart by selecting a prefix, root word, or suffix
card to study. Put that card into the middle pocket. Now, place the
corresponding words in the other 6 clear pockets.
Using Your Kit
There are several ways you can use your Word Web to introduce or
review vocabulary. For a whole-class activity, place a prefix, suffix, or
root word card in the center pocket. Point out and discuss the
meaning that is printed on the card. Ask students if they can think of
any words that use this prefix, suffix, or root word. Place any cards
with words they name in the 6 surrounding pockets, then read the
definition printed on the card. If students name a word that isn’t on a
card, write it on the write & wipe board. Once students have finished
