The circular genome of Synechocystis sp. strain
PCC6803. which contains 3.573.470 bp. was opened at
the junction of Asc I-E and Asc I-F fragments.1 and
is represented by a linear map starting from this junction (map position 0/100). Under the linear map indicating the nucleotide positions with numerals in Kb.
the regions covered by cosmid clones (cs). A clones (Is)
and long PCR products (ps) used for sequence analysis
are indicated by bars. The thick portions of the bars
represent the regions where the sequences were actually
taken, although the thin bar portions have also been sequenced. All the information on the 1-Mb region previously reported 2 was incorporated into the map. The
nucleotide positions of the 1-Mb region. 1 to 1,003.450.
correspond to 2.267.260 to 3.270.709 in the present map.
Below the physical maps, the potential protein-coding
regions (ORFs). assigned on the basis of ORF analysis,
similarity search to DNA and protein databases and GeneMark analysis are indicated by boxes with arrowheads,
indicating the reading direction. The detailed assignment procedures were described in the main article in
this issue (ppOO-ppOO). The ORFs of which the function
could be evaluated by similarity search were classified
into 14 functional categories.3 and indicated by different color codes. The two ribosomal RNA operons are
shown by closed boxes, and postulated IS-like elements
by dotted boxes. The sequence data analysed have been
registered in the DDBJ by dividing into 27 entries. The
