Theodore Roosevelt Theodore Roosevelt was born October 27, 1858 in New York, New York. His family was very rich. His nickname was Teddy. When he was young he was very sick and he had asthma. His dad told him to exercise and stay active to improve his health. He grew into a strong and healthy man who loved the outdoors. Teddy went to Harvard University to study law. He soon went into politics (the government), but his first wife died and he was very sad. He went out west to work on a ranch as a cowboy. He went back to New York and got married again. He started working for the government again. A war started called the Spanish-American War and Teddy gathered a bunch of volunteers and for a small army to help his nation. He became governor of New York after that. Teddy became Vice President to President William McKinley, but when he was assassinated (killed) Theodore Roosevelt became president. President Roosevelt worked really hard to make life better for American Citizens. He also helped setup national parks in the United States. He was a peacemaker and won the Nobel Peace Prize for helping bring peace between Russia and Japan. Theodore Roosevelt died on January 6, 1919 in Oyster Bay, New York from being very sick.
