Activity Name: Play Ball
Standard: Conventions of Standard English
Skill/Objective: (COPY IN YOUR PASSPORT) Adjectives
Directions
1. Work with 2 to 4 partners.
2. Choose a token and place it at home plate, stack the PLAY BALL
baseball cards face down on the pitcher’s mound.
3. Decide who will go first. That partner sits behind the Batter 1
Scoreboard. Batter 4 holds the Answer Key first.
4. Batter 1 chooses a PLAY BALL card from the pitcher’s stack. Place the
card on the table for all to see and read the sentence aloud. Decide
which word(s) in the sentence is the adjective (the word that

Answer Key.
5. If the answer is correct, move one base and put the card in the
discard pile. If the answer is incorrect, do not move a base and put
the card under the pitcher’s stack.
6. Each time a batter gets back to Home Plate, make a tally mark in the
batter’s scoreboard.
7. When time is up or all the PLAY BALL cards have been used, count the
tally marks in each scoreboard to see who……… WINS!
