October 20th - Elmgrove School

Term 4, Week 2, 20th October 2016
I hope everyone has marked in their diary Sunday 30th of October. This is the date of the
Elmgrove Carnival. This year the fair has been designed with children in mind and turned into
a carnival. There will loads of carnival games and challenges to take part in as well as plenty
of food, baking and prizes to be bought or won. This will be a great day for the whole family so
make sure you are there and bring some friends and family. The money raised at the Carnival will be used to resurface the play area under the spinning tree and provide easy, safe access to this very popular piece of play equipment.

Term 4 is a summer term and that means children are required to wear sunhats in the playground. There has been heavy demand for new hats as children realize they have no idea what they did with
them at the end of Term 1. More are on the way but in the meantime we ask that children bring a hat from
home if they are waiting for a school one. Hats need to have a brim and be worn when out on the field. We
have plenty of shady areas around the school. Children who do not have a hat are being asked to stay under
the verandahs which can be a little frustrating for them. Please make sure you name your child’s hat. Twink
works well on the navy blue hats.
I hope you are all looking forward to an extra day in your weekend this week. Monday is Labour day. I am
sure you will all appreciate a day to celebrate the eight-hour working day. Eight hours for work, eight hours for
recreation and eight hours for rest. Does that sound like your day?
Have a great Labour weekend

In the holidays I went to the Gym Sports
Nationals. To get there I had to have a score
in the top 20 rhythmic gymnasts in my level in
NZ. I competed in free, hoop and clubs as
well as in a group. I was excited to get 9th
overall in NZ and my group came 4th.
