Dear Parents, Thank you, for your enthusiastic participation in making the ‘Parent and me’ day exciting and successful. . Following Shayan’s presentation, we had Kangana entertaining her friends with a puppet show this week. I regret to inform that this week’s newsletter will have lesser number of pictures due to a technical fault. In Literacy this week we focused on revising the sounds done so far. We did so by playing matching games. The children can been seen quizzing their friends and enjoying playing this game during their free play. We also moved on to the next sound ‘i’. The children wanted to make a mobile of an insect and came with ideas of making a (spider) insect with cut out of their palm prints. It was truly a pleasure to see the children thinking of activities for the sounds. Tricky word for this week- he In Numeracy apart from writing the number 4, we concentrated on the 4 basic shapes and tried to understand their properties. We then played a hopping game based on the 4 shapes. The students had to jump on the shape called out by their teacher of friends. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the game and even wanted their teachers to have a go at it Shayan and Mayra sticking pre cut shapes in their math note books. Aman playing the shapes hopping game as his friends call out the shapes In UOI this week we spoke of relationships and responsibilities and read a variety of books on families and the responsibilities and roles of family members. Firstly we read the book ‘All kinds of People’ by Emma Damon to understand that people are of many types and have different likes and dislikes. After reading this book the students interviewed each other about what they like and do not like. They were surprised to find out that their friends had preferences which very different from their own. This helped made them think and understand that it’s not always necessary “that our friends have to be just like us” (as said by most of the students) We then read the book ‘My Family’ by Jim Pipe which talks about the members of a family, following which the children drew pictures of their family. Some children even drew a family tree. The book ‘Can I help’ by Alvin Granowsky made the children think and reflect on how do they help their parents at home. And finally the books ‘There is a new baby at home’ by Sumathi Sudhakar and ‘New Brothers and Sisters’ by Elizabeth Raum made the children share their experiences about how they feel sharing their toys, goodies and most importantly they parents with siblings. We also brainstormed about the roles and responsibilities we have in our homes.
