July 2014 1 R Our new Program Development Manager Sean recently sat down with our longest running member of staff, Roary the Lion, to answer a few questions about Jungle Sports for our newsletter. Here’s what he had to say: Ok Sean, we’ll start with the easy stuff! Name: Sean Fry I’m going to need your full name: Really Roary? Fine, Sean Barry Fry. Age: 28 Hometown: Albany, WA Height: 178cm (I think) Weight: 80kg Shoe Size: Much smaller than yours, Roary. How long have you been coaching kid’s sports? I’ve been with Jungle for about 2 years, and involved in kids coaching for about 5 years. Favourite Jungle Game? There are too many good ones. Probably Animal Races or Jungle Popcorn (because I get to sing movie songs!) What do you like most about Jungle Sports sessions? Honestly, they’re just fun. The family side of it, with parents, grand-parents, brother, sisters, cousins all being welcome sets it apart from anything else I’ve done. You get to have fun and make jokes and have adult conversations with the parents, and still be silly with the kids. What else makes Jungle different to other coaching programs? Primarily I think just having the ‘jungle theme’ means each activity lets kids use their imagination, be silly, but also practice their skills without fear of failure. If you’re a kid throwing a ‘coconut’ at a ‘gorilla’ and you miss, but someone else hits him, you laugh because the gorilla falls over. You never get upset because you failed and someone else succeeded, because it’s a laugh either way. This is so important at a young age to not turn kids off physical activity. Thanks for your time Sean. And finally, will you join me in a Jungle Cheer? Uhhh, do I have to? Yes. Ok then Roary, just for you. (Sean and Roary together): Ohhhhhhhhhhh JUNGLE SPORTS! Favourite Song? The Jungle Jingle, obviously… “Fun, fun, fun in the Jungle”… or ‘Do You Want To Build a Snowman?’ Favourite Movie: Anyone that’s done Jungle Popcorn with me knows it’s either ‘Aladdin’, or ‘Frozen’. And definitely not ‘Dances With Wolves’. How are you adjusting to your new role? Very well - it’s more hours and more responsibility, but we have a fantastic team of coaches always willing to help. As long as I still get to coach sessions and don’t get stuck in the office all day, I’m happy. July 2014 2 R Recipe for Jungle Fit Kids Monkey mac & cheese with broccoli trees 1.
