Charette participants were divided into four groups based on their areas of expertise – policy, traffic, land use and geometrics. Each group was given a large aerial photograph of the area surrounding the existing intersection of US 10 and CSAH 83. Each aerial photograph included the existing roadways, as well as conceptual new roadways. Conceptual realignments of US 10 are shown in yellow, other conceptual roadways were shown in green, and conceptual bridge structures were shown in orange. Charette participants were directed to draw conceptual roadway alignments on the aerial photograph. The drawings may or may not correspond to the other conceptual roadways shown on the aerial photograph due to the fact that the roadway information provided on the aerial was a means to developing the alternatives and not the foundation for alternatives development. Group 1: Policy The following drawing shows a realignment of CSAH 83 to the west and a realignment of Sunwood Drive to the north. The westbound ramps are shown in a tight diamond configuration and the eastbound ramps are shown in a folded diamond configuration. 1 The following drawing shows a realignment of CSAH 83 and a diverging diamond interchange. 2 The following drawing shows a trumpet interchange and a realigned CSAH 83. In a trumpet interchange configuration, the eastbound ramps transition into CSAH 83 seamlessly, without requiring vehicles to turn at intersections. Eastbound traffic exiting US 10 follows a ramp which transitions directly into northbound CSAH 83, and southbound traffic on CSAH 83 transitions directly onto US 10. In the drawing below, the ramps drawn in red indicate two possible locations and configurations for the interchange. The westbound ramps are shown with a tight diamond configuration. It also shows a roundabout at the intersection of Sunwood Drive and Ramsey Parkway. 3 The following drawing shows a partial diverging diamond interchange along a realigned CSAH 83 to the west. 4 Group 2: Traffic The following drawing shows a diverging diamond interchange along a realigned CSAH 83. It also shows the realignment of Sunwood Drive and Riverdale Drive. The drawing may also indicate a roundabout at the intersection of CSAH 83 and Riverdale Drive. 5 The following drawing shows two possible locations for an offset single point interchange. One location is shown in black, another is shown in blue. This drawing also shows the realignment of Riverdale Drive and Sunwood Drive. An offset single point interchange is similar to a standard single point interchange, but the intersection is offset to one side of the major roadway ‐ the south side in this case. 6 The following drawing shows a diverging diamond interchange along with a realigned Sunwood Drive and Riverdale Drive. 7 The following drawing shows the realignment of CSAH 83 and Sunwood Drive with an offset single point interchange. The drawing also shows the realignment of Riverdale Drive. 8 Group 3: Land Use The following drawing shows a trumpet interchange with the realignment of CSAH 83. The westbound ramps are a tight diamond. The drawing also shows the realignment of Riverdale Drive, Sunwood Drive, and Ramsey Parkway. 9 The following drawing shows the westbound ramps in a tight diamond configuration and the eastbound ramps in a trumpet configuration. The drawing also shows the realignment of CSAH 83, and the extension of Sunwood Drive and CSAH 116. 10 Group 4: Geometrics The following drawing shows a tight diamond interchange along with a realigned CSAH 83. The drawing also shows that Sunwood Drive would be grade separated from CSAH 83. 11 This drawing shows the realignment of CSAH 83 to the west of the existing intersection location with a tight diamond interchange. 12 The following two drawings show the eastbound ramps in a button hook configuration that intersect with a realigned Riverdale Drive. The westbound ramps are in a tight diamond configuration. The drawings also show the realignment of CSAH 83 to the west along with potential extensions of CSAH 83 to the south. 13 The following two drawings show the westbound ramps in a tight diamond configuration. The eastbound ramps are in a folded diamond configuration. The drawing shows the realignment of CSAH 83 and Sunwood Drive as well as a new south frontage roadway. 14 The following drawing shows the eastbound ramps in a partial cloverleaf configuration and the westbound ramps in a tight diamond configuration. The drawing also shows the realignment of Riverdale Drive and CSAH 83. 15 The drawing below shows the realignment of CSAH 83 and Sunwood Drive. It also shows a new roadway branching off Sunwood Drive that would be grade separated from CSAH 83. The westbound ramps are in a tight diamond configuration. 16
