FAIRHOLME PREPARATORY
SCHOOL
An Introduction by Philip Reeve
I have been writing stories ever since I learnt how to write
but I never imagined I would see my stories in print until I
finished Mortal Engines, which was about my first really big
idea – moving cities!
Well done for having your own piece of writing in print
already in this We Are Writers book. Stories and poems can
be anything you would like them to be – they can be long or
short, funny or scary, and about very, very big or very, very
small things. The most important thing is to keep looking for
ideas. Inspiration can be found anywhere so keep on looking,
and make notes of your ideas so they can be used later.
Always be yourself when you write though. A story or
poem belongs to you, and the very best ones tend to spring
out of your own personality. And don’t forget to keep looking
out for ideas for your next masterpiece…

Foreword
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, 2012, has been a unique
event which we hope will be remembered by the children
of Fairholme in years to come. This collection of individual
poems, written by our pupils, provides a personal and
special record of this historic occasion. It reflects some of
the sentiments expressed by the children of the Queen’s
contribution to our country during her sixty year reign and
the excitement of the Jubilee celebrations taking place.
The collection comprises a number of different styles
of poetry, including freeform, haiku, kenning and acrostic,
selected to suit the ages of the children and to represent
the variety of learning in literacy at Fairholme. Our aim was
to involve as many children as possible and so Forms III to
VII have provided poems, Forms I and II have written some
ideas and thoughts about the Queen and the older members
of Kindergarten have contributed drawings of the Queen for
the book cover.
My thanks go to all the children for their efforts and to the
staff for their encouragement and guidance.

Sixty years on from when she was crowned,
She has made Britain proud.
From William the Conqueror past Henry VIII,
Elizabeth II has been the best;
The birds will sing in honour,
All for Elizabeth II,
Sixty years of reign is amazing!
The Queen will look forward to the Epsom
Derby,
As she is the Number One horse fan!
A thousand boats will muster on the River
Thames,
It seems that the Queen has reigned for a
thousand years.

Beside her she has five corgi dogs called
Holly, Willow, Linnet, Monty and Emma,
In the army she is the head,
In front of our houses, street parties take place,
Outside her palace she has Beefeaters,
In her life she has two grandsons called
William and Harry,
Below her in the family tree is Charles her son,
Inside Buckingham Palace is her throne,
During 1953 she was crowned.

The Exciting Event
Austin Webber Form VI
The Queen with a mighty sixty year reign,
She is still as right as rain,
With her family so loving, they keep coming
and coming,
She has a crystal crown, she has never
frowned.
Don’t you agree, with me?
She has been on the throne since 1953.
I hope she stays for a very long time,
She is still not as bitter as lime.
The Epsom Derby will be quite a party,
The Queen herself will attend,
She will watch till the end,
The nation so proud, why are they so loud?
Don’t you agree, with me?
She has been on the throne since 1953,
With horses at a mighty pace,
That will be a fantastic race.

In honour of your Diamond Day.
The people shout, “Make way, make way!”
For the party is going to start,
Everyone plays an important part,
For all the celebrations for you
Your Majesty the Queen,
The everlasting Queen of England.
For you the flotilla boats
Float away in lovely coats.
Please attend your Majesty,
When she comes she’ll arrive in
Great style, with a shining crown,
And a wonderful glittering gown.
Your Majesty the Queen,
The everlasting Queen of England
For you the beacons are lit,
The fire is as red as blood.
Went up and up in flames,
93
If you watch, you will find out.
Whatever happens, don’t wear a pout!
Everyone is happy for you,
Your Majesty
The Queen of England.
For you a Diamond Choir sings.

In shining gold, very posh,
Will offer you tea and toast.
When you reach an RAF plane
Will fly by and do tricks.
The Queen loves us very dearly.
