Week 5 Term 1 Every day I need You Lord But this day especially

Dear Parents and Carers,
Week 5
Term 1
Our school has been deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Tara Costigan
last Saturday. It has been an emotional and difficult time for the whole school
community. As a staff we have come together to pray and to support each other
in our grief. Many parents have asked for ways they could help support the
Costigan-Wittman family, below are two links to fundraisers that benefit the
family. Be assured that the school will organise something for the family in time.

To fortify my courage
And to overcome my fear.
By myself, I cannot meet
The challenge of the hour,
There are times when humans help,
But we need a higher power
To assist us bear what must be borne,
And so dear Lord, I pray –
Hold on to my trembling hand
And be near me today.
Amen.
Sadly I inform you that Cecily Dignan, sister of Ms Jo Dignan (Year 4L teacher) passed away last Saturday surrounded
by her family. Our thoughts and prayers are also with Jo and her family. Cecily’s funeral will be held tomorrow
afternoon and classes will be modified to enable staff to attend. It would be very helpful if children could be
collected early from school (2pm) if at all possible, this would be greatly appreciated.
Warm wishes to Ms Emily Henderson and her Fiancé Adam for their wedding this weekend – wishing you happiness
always.
Please be mindful and caring of everyone within the school community.
God bless,
Greg Walker

‘CARITAS FOOD FOR LIFE’
The theme for Project Compassion 2015 is ‘Food for Life’. Food is essential for all life, yet many of the world’s poorest
people do not have access to reliable food sources. That means they live day-to-day, uncertain of how they’ll afford or
find their next meal. Without food the rest of life is impossible to contemplate: how can you plan for the future or
educate your children when you fear you will be hungry?
Project Compassion 2015 throws a spotlight on global food issues, focusing on the ways in which Caritas Australia is
empowering the world’s poorest people to establish sustainable food sources for life that relieve them of the fear of
hunger and allow them to develop new, improved income streams for a better future.
At St Anthony’s Primary School there are a number of Leadership Portfolios. One of these portfolios is the ‘Mission
Group’ comprised of Year 5 and Year 6 student leaders. This year the aim of the Mission Group is to reach out to those
members of our local and global community to raise awareness about the world’s most needy and support them in
any way they can.
The Mission Group have thought of a number of fundraising ideas that they hope to lead throughout 2015 beginning
with Project Compassion. This term on Thursday 12th March, 2015 the Mission Group ask that all students wear their
favourite sporting team jerseys or sporting team colours. They do not need to be football teams any sporting team
colours. Each student is asked to bring in a gold coin donation to wear their team colours and will participate in fun
sporting activities led by the Mission Group leaders.
With your help the Mission Group is hoping to raise a total of $1000.00 to donate to Project Compassion.

Student of the Week Certificates
Congratulations to the following students who receive
this week’s certificate. Students will be presented with
their certificate at Friday morning Assembly:
The walkway roof is covered in mildew and has been
in desperate need of cleaning for a couple of years
now. It would be great if we could have it cleaned
before the fete so we can present the school in the
best possible light. Many people who enrol their
children at St Anthony’s come to the school fete the
year before as a way of getting a feel for the place.
Presenting the school in a clean
and tidy manner helps us to
demonstrate that we take a bit
of pride in the place.
William N KA, Darcy V KP, Imogen W KL, Irteza A 1A,
Marcus D 1P, Georgia A 2A, Mariam B 2P, Dylan G
2L, Aran M 3P, Gabrielle B-Mc 3P.
Please bring ladders, buckets
and rags to complete the task.
Don't worry about pressure
cleaners. We've tried and they
don't work on the roofing material”
Certificates are awarded at Friday morning assembly
at 9am.
