Hebrews tells us that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. Who are they? They are our ancestors. Our ancestors in faith: Jeremiah from this week, Abraham of whom we read last week, the saints and martyrs. They are all in the stands watching us run our race. Knowing that the angels and saints are watching can be a source of strength. Their sacrifices and sufferings can encourage us to remain faithful ourselves. Hebrews tells us to lay aside every encumbrance of sin. People wore robes in those days. To run, they had to lay aside their robes and tighten their undergarments. In essence, we too must be willing to hitch up our pants and start running the Christian race. 2016-2017 RCIA SCHEDULE September 9, 2016 Thru Easter April 16, 2017 Registration is now in progress. This multi-part film series illumines a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of civilization. The pivotal players include St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Francis of Assisi, Michelangelo, St. Catherine of Siena, G.K. Chesterton, and Blessed John Henry Newman. SCC meet weekly at certain locations in the New Orleans area. If you are interested in becoming a member of a SCC, please call Helen Owens at the Center. There were few dissenting voices. What the pope solemnly declared was already a common belief in the Catholic Church.
