Dates to
Remember
December 9, 2015
Dear Rice Lake families,
As you know, last year we started the “HAWKS Way” at Rice Lake Elementary. We started by creating the expectations for areas in the building and
are now working on videos that students can view that shows them what to
do; rather than focusing on what not to do! We then acknowledge students
who are meeting those expectations.
This past Friday, we held another “HAWKS” assembly. Once again, your
children amazed me. We had our staff (and now students!) dance. The kids
have picked up the dance and join in. It’s so much fun to see the kids
dancing along and having a great time – all in the name of celebrating
students meeting expectations. We did videotape it and are working on a
video to put on our website – stay tuned. The students have also begun to
take on more of a leadership role with the assembly. They are leading the
cheers, helping teach area expectations and helping with the technology.

At the end of the day, what I’m really proud of is the community the
assemblies create in the building! Our focus on acknowledging students
has not been on students winning prizes, but more on having fun
experiences. It’s exciting to hear kids cheering for one another when they
get picked for pizza lunch, celebrity photo, fine dining, or one of the other
“experiences” they can participate in. Ask your child(ren) what it means to
be a Hawk!

with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.
