Mrs. McCall’s Science Class Plans are written as a guide for instruction. Please be mindful that the activities may be modified or adjusted to accommodate the various learning styles of the students and/or interruptions in the regular schedule. Week of February 13-14, 2017 Monday Standard: 7.L.3 The student will demonstrate an understanding of how the levels of organization within organisms support the essential functions of life. 7.L.3B.2 Construct explanations for how systems in the human body (including circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems) work together to support the essential life functions of the body. Bring your science notebook to class daily! Activities: TTW introduce the next body system to the class by engaging students in an activity entitled, How Do Your Ribs Move When You Breathe?” After the activity, the class will discuss their observations and make inferences. TTW present and discuss the respiratory system with the class. TSW copy notes, ask and answer questions and complete the graphic organizer. Assessment: Ticket Out the Door (Summarizer) Tuesday Homework: Section Review #s 1,2, 3, 5, and 6 on page 203; Students will use Costa’s Levels of Thinking and Questioning tool to create 3 leveled questions based on today’s notes. Afterwards, TSW answer their leveled questions and the essential question in the summary section of their notebook. Standard: 7.L.3 The student will demonstrate an understanding of how the levels of organization within organisms support the essential functions of life. 7.L.3B.2 Construct explanations for how systems in the human body (including circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems) work together to support the essential life functions of the body. Activities: TSW complete the review and reinforcement activity, The Respiratory System. TTW assist with questions/concerns. In honor of Black History month, TTW introduce the next research project. SW use online and library resources to research an African-American who has contributed to the advancement of science and/or technology. SW create a visual display to show their knowledge of their scientist/inventor. In their final product, students will also reflect on how their scientist/inventor has improved the quality of life for humans, animals or plants. Assessment: The Respiratory System handout Wednesday Homework: Make flashcards for the following terms: nose, trachea, bronchi, lungs, diaphragm, and alveoli. The completed Black Scientist/Inventor project is due on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017. Activities: We will review and discuss PASS-like test items. TTW introduce the next body system, Circulatory, to the class by having students calculate their heart rate before and after exercise. TTW also present and discuss the Circulatory System with the class. TSW copy the notes and ask/answer questions. Assessment: Bell Work, Teacher Observations, Summarizer and Homework Homework: 8.1 Circulatory System handout (pgs. 225231) and study your notes and flashcards to prepare for the quiz; Black Scientist/Inventor Project- due Feb. 28 Thursday Standard: 7.L.3 The student will demonstrate an understanding of how the levels of organization within organisms support the essential functions of life. 7.L.3B.2 Construct explanations for how systems in the human body (including circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems) work together to support the essential life functions of the body. Activities: TTW review the homework with students. TSW complete the review and reinforcement activity, The Circulatory System. TTW assist with questions/concerns.
