Another Successful Regional ADSA!
T
he 2013 Regional ADSA was another one for the books
for the Gopher Dairy Club as they went home with several
awards. This year, Regional ADSA was hosted by Iowa State’s
Dairy Science Club in Ames, IA. The Gopher Dairy Club enjoyed Friday night activities and a Saturday filled with educational seminars. The weekend came to a close with a recognition banquet that honored accomplishments from each club.
The Gopher Dairy Club was awarded “Largest Club in Attendance,” “1st Place Chapter Yearbook,” and “1st Place Website.”
Also, a large congratulations goes out to Kelsey Mussman for
being elected the 1st Vice President!
The Gopher Dairy Club is excited for next year’s Regional
ADSA, as it will be held at the Ohio State University. Dates of
the event have yet to be determined.

Gophers Help at State Convention
ver 296 FFA members from across the state gathered at the State Conventional on April 28-30 on the
St. Paul Campus. Once again, the Gopher Dairy Club pulled off an outstanding Judging Contest for
the young FFA members. There was a mulitude of help from all members as heifers and cows needed to be
washed, clipped, handled, and brought to the arena for the contest. The State FFA Dairy Judging Contest is
a time where members are able to work together to create an educational contest for FFA members who are
truly passionate about the dairy industry. A large thank you goes out to Rebecca Groos and Craig Betcher
as they co-chaired this great event!

GDC Takes 3rd At MN Royal Events
ats Off To Thee - MN Royal 2013! It sure was an exciting MN Royal this year for the Gopher Dairy
Club. Not only did the club complete the week events with a 3rd place finish, but GDC queen candidate, Theresa Twohey, stole the hearts of the St. Paul Campus as the 2013 MN Royal Queen. Alongside
her ran our king candidate, Isaac Salfer. The week’s events included: Skit Night, Quiz Bowl, the Royal
Run, the Milkmaid Contest, Ag Olympics, the Showmanship Competition, and the always anticipated
Johnny Holms. The 2013 MN Royal was held on April 8-13 with an unexpected snowstorm rolling in,
making this week one to remember for years to come!
Members Celebrate At Annual Banquet
E
ach year, Gopher Dairy Club members, past and present,
take time to reflect on the past year’s accomplishments.
The 2012 Annual Recognition Banquet was once again held at
the Ramada Hotel in Minneapolis on February 17, where nearly 200 members and their supporters attended. This year, Joel
Groskreutz, CEO of Accelerated Genetics was the main speaker for the event and he did a wonderful job of encouraging students to continue pursuing a career in the dairy industry. The
“Rookie of the Year Award,” “Outstanding Senior Award,” as
well as Animal Science Scholarships were among the awards
recognized at the banquet. This year was a notable one, as the
Gopher Dairy Club proudly awarded two “Rookie of the Year”
awards to Kelsey Mussman and Rebecca Groos. While the
club consisted of 20 dedicated seniors, Emily Krekelberg was
awarded the “Outstanding Senior Award.” The Gopher Dairy
Club looks foward to another year filled with excitement to
bring to the 2013 Annual Recognition Banquet!

Scholarships
Congratulations to freshman, Wyatt Smith, on receiving the Fred
Stout Experience Award! Wyatt resides in Hamburg, MN where his
family operates Smith Haven Dairy, a 125-cow Jersey herd. Smith is
a freshman at the University of Minnesota studying Animal Science
with a dairy emphasis. The Fred Stout Experience Award is one of
nine educational awards for Jersey Youth managed by the American
Jersey Cattle Association.
