January 6, 2017 Celebrating 87 Years St. Paul Catholic School Eagle Update Deeply Rooted in Knowledge, Faith, and Family St. Paul Catholic School 1900 12th Street No. St. Petersburg, FL 33704 Office: Since 1930 “ I Can Do All things Through Him Who Strengthens Me.” Philippians 4:13 727-823-6144 Sunday, January 8th, is the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. This feast commemorates the visit of the wise men to Bethlehem to worship the Baby Jesus. These men were E-mail [email protected] astrologers who found the Baby Jesus by following the Web site www.stpaul1930.org guidance of a mysterious star. According to the Gospel narratives, the three wise men brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These gifts were very meaningful. Gold was a precious and expensive gift, and showed how important Jesus was. Frankincense is a sweet perfume which was often burned in the temple to worship God. It was a sign that Jesus should be worshipped. Myrrh was used to keep things fresh, and it was used by the women to anoint Jesus’ body when he died. By bringing it as a gift to Jesus, the wise men foretold his suffering and death. Ext. Day 727-823-5177 Take time this weekend to explain the feast of the Epiphany to your children. Some families refer to this feast as Three Kings Day or Little Christmas. A common tradition to celebrate the Epiphany is to do a blessing of the house and family. This can be done by sprinkling holy water over the entrance to the home, going room to room and saying a short prayer in each room. Ask each family member to make the sign of the cross on the Mission Statement forehead of each family member. As the feast of the Epiphany brings to a close the Inspired by the charism of Christmas celebrations and the New Year begins, let us lift each other up in prayer and in the Franciscan Sisters of love. Allegany, the mission of St. Paul Catholic School is to provide students with a foundation for life through faith, academics, and service and to assist students in developing their gifts and talents, so that they may fulfill the plan God has for their lives.
