Communicator Earns
National Recognition
Annual DDDC
recalculation goes
into effect Sept. 1
Savannah Chandler, Walton EMC Natural Gas communications
coordinator, has been honored for her work in the recent
Cooperative Communicators Association (CCA) annual
communications contest.
A portion of your Walton
EMC Natural Gas bill is a base
charge from Atlanta Gas Light
(AGL). This charge is regulated by
the Georgia Public Service
Commission and does not vary by
marketer. Base charges represent
the cost of delivering gas to your
home or business, pipeline
maintenance and meter reading.
“To be recognized as a standout among the high caliber of
CCA’s marketers and communicators is incredibly rewarding,”
said Chandler.
Chandler brought home first-place honors in the broadcast
advertising category for the 2014
“Big Gift” campaign, third place in
the campaigns and programs
category for last year’s natural gas
advertising campaign and third
place in the photo feature category
for her photo “Highline Cowboy.”
Factored into the base rate is the
Dedicated Design Day Capacity
(DDDC) charge, which covers
common costs of delivering gas to
your home. DDDC is based on each
customer’s demand on the coldest
day of the year. This method is the
fairest way to allocate each
customer’s share of the delivery
system’s total cost.
“I’m especially proud of winning
the broadcast advertising category
for our natural gas company,”
said Chandler.
This year’s contest drew 703
entries from across the cooperative
spectrum that includes energy,
agriculture, telecommunications, food and banking. Chandler’s
awards bring Walton EMC’s 20-year total to 64.
QuickRead Version
DDDC Q&A
What is a Dedicated Design Day Capacity
charge (DDDC)? DDDC is factored into
your base rate and covers the costs of
delivering natural gas.
What is DDDC based on? A customer’s gas
use on the coldest day of the year.
Why is the DDDC recalculated each year?
A DDDC recalculation is required each year
and approved by the Georgia PSC.
How is DDDC determined? Past usage
patterns and gas appliances.
When Does the recalculation go into
effect Sept. 1, 2015.
Each year, AGL recalculates DDDC

recent usage patterns. This process is
now complete for the upcoming year and
will go into effect for billing after Sept. 1.
