UNIVERSITY RACING TEAM EINDHOVEN QUALITY CONTROL OF THE URE11 RACE CAR Formula Student competition University Racing Team Eindhoven (URE) competes in the “Formula Student” competition every year. The concept of this competition is to develop a small Formula-1 style racing car where design, construction and testing are key. Formula Student was introduced in 1978 in the United States and has since grown into an international event in which 600 teams participate every year. The build of the URE11 racing car Prodim has provided them with a Proliner IS Survey, for the improvement of their production process and quality control. SURVEY QUALITY CONTROL DURING THE PRODUCTION PROCESS OF THE URE11 RACING CAR Prodim Proliner IS Survey Proliner IS Survey can be used efficiently as a quality control device. With it you can check produced items during different stages of the production process. Proliner IS Survey 3D exists out of the Proliner IS and the Survey app (for android), to navigate to the selected points. The Proliner IS Survey is accurate and fast, you can complete measurements on the job site and measure deviations against base data in real-time. Your phone will immediately show the measured XYZ data and on the Proliner IS you can compare the measure XYZ values with the master data. Quality control of the URE11 During the development stages of the racing car, the URE team formulated questions related to quality control: Is our carbon chassis produced in compliance with the master drawing? Are the fixture points drilled on chassis, in the right place for assembly? The potential quality impact can be great if the deviation is serious, resulting in aerodynamic drag among other things. To check their formula racing car the URE used the Proliner IS Survey, which can be used to collect the XYZ data needed for quality control, quick and precise. MASTER DESIGN - The produced parts are all compared to the master design. QUALITY CONTROL - With the Proliner IS Survey you can measure deviations against base data in real-time. URE uses Proliner IS Survey in their production process To check if the fixture points drilled into the chassis was in compliance with the master drawing, the URE started with defining the reference points they wanted to find in the master drawing. They imported the drawing onto the Proliner IS and connected the Survey app on their phone. After measuring the reference point according to which the markers need to be positioned, they used the phone to navigate to the targets. With the help of the Proliner IS Survey, the URE was able to find a deviation: the fixture points for the rear wing of the car were not in the right place for assembly. If this would have gone unnoticed it would have a tremendous effect on the way the URE11 racing car accelerates, handles and achieves fuel mileage. Thanks to the Proliner IS Survey the URE can build the car as originally designed. XYZ DATA - The Proliner IS will immediately show the measured XYZ data.
