Homestead Act: Made it so for a small fee settlers could have 160 acres of land. In order to get
this the settlers needed to meet the following conditions: Be at least 21 years old or the head of
a family, American Citizens or applying to become one. Had to build a house and live in it for at
least half the year and had to farm the land for five years. This act created more than 372,000
farms
