Megan – Sales Intern Hi, my name is Megan and I was a Sales Intern with Schuneman Equipment last summer. Q: Where did you attend college? A: I went to school at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. I went for Agricultural Business and Agronomy, so starting at Schuneman Equipment really lined up with where I wanted to be after I graduated. Q: What brought you to SEC? A: I’ve always grown up on a farm around green equipment. I knew from past internships that coming to Brookings, Schunemans was the place I wanted to be a part of a team at. Q: What was the most important thing you learned? A: Along my process of becoming in the position I am today as a sales rep, learning that customers have their own needs and different ways of communication is key. Each experience is unique and no two situations are ever typically the same. Q: How did this internship prepare you for your career? A: My last internship, last summer with Schuneman, taught me a lot about inventory and a lot about different products. It also taught me when you have questions, who you go to for those questions because you can honestly never ask too many questions or get too much information about anything. Q: What does your typical day look like? A: Just like no two customers are the same, no two days are typically the same. Some days are spent in the office doing paperwork or taking John Deere University courses and then there’s some days where you’re out in the field with the customers, answering questions and demonstrating different products. Q: How did your experience give you a unique perspective? A: Learning the sales paperwork side of things gave me a different perspective of two different sides of Schunemans. I got to learn the background information about the paperwork – where it’s going why we’re doing certain things on those purchase orders, why we’re sending it to who we are versus the sales side where you’re out interacting with the customers. It’s just a different way to look at things and have appreciative understanding of both sides. Q: Why did you decide to be a full time employee? A: Schuneman’s is a great company. I work for some really great people. I enjoy my day. Every day, I enjoy coming to work and that’s ultimately what it’s about. Seeing the customers, especially in the field, getting to travel to see them and informing them and talking about Schuneman’s. It’s a great experience.
