PURPOSE AND OVERVIEW (max. 5 sentences)
The course aims to develop scientific knowledge about the origin and genesis of the relationship between the state and
the church, to introduce students to the basic sources of law relevant for the individual states and the church, and to
compare the western and eastern model of church-state relationship.
SYLLABUS (brief outline and summary of topics, max. 10 sentences)
Unrecognized Christian church in the Roman state. Edict of Milan. Byzantine Emperor and the Patriarch of
Constantinople. Rulers in Francia and the church. Transplant of the church-state symphony in Serbian, Bulgarian and
Russian state. Concordat of Worms. Gallicanism and Febronianism. State and the Church during the French Revolution.
State and the church in the Principality of Serbia, Kingdom of Serbia, Kingdom of SCS and Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
