South Shore Moratorium
Continues Activities
About 25 girls and boys between
the ages of seven and fourteen
from the Maple .Park Homes and
surrounding Area decided to do
something on Earthday, April 22
to help in the fight against
pollution and littering. Three
Ryerson, Roy
boys, Bruce
Petersen and Allan Knoess went
to Mayor Hanse and asked for his
help in supplying a dumptruck
from the Village Highway Dept.
On Wednesday, between the
hours of three and seven these
boys and girls filled up five
dumptrucks with debris, which
they picked up from the wooded
area west of Southards Pond,
adjacent to Morrison , Pilcher
and Gwynn Street.

The
SOUTH
SHORE
MORATORIUM has announced
that it will continue its activities
despite the closing of the national
offices in Washington , B.C. at the
end of this month. The national
group had ' announced that new
approaches consisting . of local
actions would be used in its
campaign for the end of the war
rather than massive demonstrations on a national scale.
A spokesman for the SOUTH
SHORE MORATORIUM stated
that what had taken place by
closing the national headquarters
was, in effect, a de-centralizingtfrf
the peace movement and would
place greater emphasis on the
importance of "grass-roots"
peace activities. As an example
of the upsurge in peace activities
on Long Island, the spokesman
Raymond Vino, a junior at the
West Islip Senior High School will
present his first motion picture,

required from the New York Port

readily given. His faith in
governmental progression has

cited two new; peace groups had

the war, making a total of
fourteen peace groups now .civ

coalition.
As part of the peace action for
May, leaflets and pamphlets will
