This newsletter is a weekly publication celebrating student life at Regent Christian Academy. If you have any photos, stories or field trip adventures to share, please email to [email protected] We will try to consider all submissions. The Power Team is booked in several lower mainland schools next week—both public and private. RCA will enjoy a performance by the Power Team on Wednesday, November 4th, at 1:00 pm. When the Power Team was here two years ago, several of our students made decisions for Christ. We look forward to a fruitful time once again, both at RCA and in the evening rallies at Bible Fellowship. Please cover these school visits and evening rallies in prayer. Please pray that students, particularly from our local public schools, will be drawn to the evening rallies and respond to the salvation message given. KITCHEN STUFF Our FOODS LAB is in need of some kitchen stuff. If you have new or lightly used goodies, we would be most appreciative. Pots & pans, knives, tongs, utensils, spoon rests, recipe holders or anything extra you can share would be appreciated. Our students are currently exploring the diversity of our cultures through the world of soups, Italian, French and Thai— all from scratch. These delicious smells are waffling through our hallways and tantalizing passers by. Please kindly bring your treasures to our front office. Mr. Falcon and Miss Chen appreciated every musician’s hard work before during and after the concert. The highlights were the 7/8 choir, the grade 8 band and the jazz choir. The set up and clean up for this concert was the best ever and it made for a stress free, enjoyable evening. Once again we would like to thank the students for their hard work, the parents for supporting their children and the teachers for their assistance with the homerooms. We now look forward to working on the music for the Christmas concert on December 15th. Looking forward to seeing you then! The students expanded their understanding of Vancouver’s role in world trade while at the port to complement their social studies unit. While at Stanley Park the classes explored the diversity of God’s creation and some local historical points of interest. Thank-you to all the helpers who joined Mr. Johnston and Miss Kennelly on this adventure. MAX-I-MIME On Thursday, October 29th, the students from Grades 6 to 12 were treated to a 50 minute performance by a professional mime artist who lives in Vancouver. Max-i-mime involves the solo performance of MAX FOMITCHEV, a Russian born and trained actor. Max is hearing impaired, a fact which has no doubt heightened his awareness of movement. His wordless performance was stunning! Students and staff watched incredulously and laughed as Max wrestled with a suitcase which floated in the middle of the stage, danced with a coatrack which came alive, became a robot, and conducted a band composed of students picked from the audience. What an inspiration! In the afternoon, Max gave workshops to Drama classes. If you would like to catch a glimpse of what we experienced, you can see two of Max's skits on YouTube. Type in "Video results for Maximime". Students from grades 5-12 were eligible to sign up and auditions are currently underway. We have completed the first round of auditions and are now narrowing it down with “callbacks”, Friday, and next week. Big Ideas Productions has given us permission to use their movie script and it is being adapted for the stage by a professional writer, Ellie King, who is also designing our sets. Jonah will be in rehearsal starting January, and will be presented the last week of April, 2010. We hope to see you all there. Ellie King is also directing the traditional “Panto”, Robin Hood, to be presented at the Surrey Arts Center during the Christmas holidays. Twenty percent of the cast are students and staff of RCA. Watch for more info on that in upcoming newsletters. THE POWER TEAM ~ Wed Nov 4th smash walls of ice and concrete. The Power Team is coming to Surrey.
