HENRY IV PARTS 1 & 2 With their focus on friendship and father/son relationships, and featuring fantastic battle scenes, the HENRY IV plays are a perfect introduction to Shakespeare in performance for KS2 primary pupils. For secondary pupils, both plays explore the themes of honour, leadership and responsibility, making them ideal for study at either KS3 or KS4. RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran and the creative team that brought you the acclaimed production of Richard II, continue their exploration of Shakespeare’s History plays at the Barbican with HENRY IV PARTS I & II, an epic, comic and thrilling vision of a nation in turmoil. This epic love story tells the tragic tale of young bar girl Kim, orphaned by war, who falls in love with an American GI called Chris - but their lives are torn apart by the fall of Saigon. RSC Associate Artist Antony Sher returns to the Company to play the infamous comic knight Falstaff. Many students only confront the reality of war as images on a television screen, on-line or in a newspaper. This sweeping musical helps them focus on the ways in which conflict affects young individuals like themselves and provides a historical background on the fall of Saigon. With his crown under threat from enemies both foreign and domestic, Henry IV prepares for war. If you’d like your class to benefit from exploring these topics in more detail then take advantage of the Show and Workshop package.
