MISS SAIGON

HENRY IV PARTS 1 & 2
With their focus on friendship
and father/son relationships, and
featuring fantastic battle scenes,
the HENRY IV plays are a perfect
introduction to Shakespeare in
performance for KS2 primary
pupils.
For secondary pupils, both plays explore the
themes of honour, leadership and responsibility,
making them ideal for study at either KS3 or KS4.
RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran and the
creative team that brought you the acclaimed
production of Richard II, continue their exploration
of Shakespeare’s History plays at the Barbican with
HENRY IV PARTS I & II, an epic, comic and
thrilling vision of a nation in turmoil.
This epic love story tells the tragic tale of young bar
girl Kim, orphaned by war, who falls in love with an
American GI called Chris - but their lives are torn
apart by the fall of Saigon.
RSC Associate Artist Antony Sher returns to
the Company to play the infamous comic knight
Falstaff.
Many students only confront the reality of war
as images on a television screen, on-line or in a
newspaper. This sweeping musical helps them
focus on the ways in which conflict affects young
individuals like themselves and provides a historical
background on the fall of Saigon.
With his crown under threat from enemies both
foreign and domestic, Henry IV prepares for war.
If you’d like your class to benefit from exploring
these topics in more detail then take advantage
of the Show and Workshop package. For just £35
students can see Miss Saigon and then take part in a
bespoke workshop investigating the shows central
themes and theatrical techniques. Contact our team

Prepare to be spellbound by WICKED
Is the Wicked Witch of the West really
wicked? Is Glinda The Good truly good? And
what if The Wonderful Wizard of Oz really
isn’t so wonderful after all?
Since its London premiere in 2006,
students and educators have been
captivated
and
enlightened
by
WICKED, the award-winning musical
that ingeniously re-imagines the stories
and characters first created in 1900 by L.
Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard
of Oz’.
Based on the 1995 novel, ‘Wicked:
The Life and Times of the Wicked
Witch of West’, by Gregory Maguire,
the premise of this acclaimed stage
adaptation is that you’ve not been told
the whole story about the magical Land
of Oz. It tells the incredible untold story
of the Witches of Oz, and seeks to
discover the truth behind myth.
Examining themes of friendship, trust,
tolerance, the use of propaganda and
the manipulation of public opinion, the
story also explores how it feels to be the
victim of bullying simply because you are
different.

June 2014
Be exhilarated by the revolutionary
musical ONCE this summer
Winner of two 2014 Olivier Awards
including Best Actress in a Musical and
Outstanding Achievement in Music.
The tender and truthful tale of a willthey-won’t-they romance between a
nameless Dublin busker (Guy) and a
similarly anonymous Czech girl (Girl),
it’s become a beautifully different stage
musical, garlanded with awards on
Broadway and now making its mark in
the West End.
The conflicts and confusions that go
hand-in with real-life love are frontand-centre here. There’s an uncommon
emotional depth to ONCE, due in no
small part to much of the story being
told through the exceptional songs of
Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová,
including their 2007 Best Song Oscarwinner, Falling Slowly.
