Preamble The core of the CRCS network is a Microsoft Active Directory based one. This means that all of your permissions, rights, even who you are as seen by the servers and your computer are all based on one thing: Your login ID. This tells our servers, email, web filtering, and even Wi-Fi connections who you are, where you are allowed to go and what you are allowed to do when you get there. When you login to your computer or laptop it stores then uses and shares your login ID with the other devices on the network so you don’t have to keep telling them who you are. Having said this, the question becomes: What does this have to do with connecting my iPad to the network? The answer to this is, the iPad has no Active Directory component. This means it can’t automatically tell all of those network devices who you are, so to gain access to those devices YOU have to tell them who you are. This How-to will guide you in configuring your iPad for connection to the CRCSNet wireless network throughout our division. Once you have done this you will be ready to surf* and connect to your email. For instructions on setting up your email please see the “Configuring Your iPad for Redeemer Email” How to. * 2 brief notes on surfing: The iPad uses mobile browser technology. Many common websites are able to detect this and will serve up a “mobile” page. These pages are “slimmed down” versions of the regular web pages and typically don’t have all of the bells and whistles that you would see on your laptop or desktop computer’s web browser. Flash. Many websites employ this add-on to add extra content, visual effects, and functionality to them. Your iPad DOES NOT use flash, and unlike your computer you can not install it. This means that any websites that employ Flash, are either un-viewable, or won’t work as they should. Connecting to the CRCS-Net Wireless Network From your iPad’s home screen, press the Settings icon, and you should see the settings menu. Once in the settings menu, press the Wi-Fi button, and a list of options along with in range wireless networks will appear in the right pane: Select the CRCS-Net Option and a dialog box will appear asking for a username and password. Use your regular windows username and password as shown below. Once you have entered your information push the Join button on the virtual keypad. You may have a second window pop up like the one below, if this occurs simply push the Accept button At this point you should be taken back to the Wi-Fi settings menu and see a checkmark beside CRCS-Net and the Wi-Fi connection icon on the top left. You are now connected to the network and ready to surf. Enhanced Wireless Setup With the implementation of our new web filtering we are able to offer an enhanced version of wireless setup for your personal or division iPad. This option is mainly for staff. If you leave your wireless setup at this point you will be browsing the internet at the “student or anonymous” web access level and some websites will be blocked to you. To enhance your iPad experience follow the steps below. Click on the blue arrow beside the CRCS-Net wireless connection This will expand the CRCS-Net wireless Network and allow you to view your IP address and set an HTTP Proxy. Under the HTTP Proxy setting press the Manual option, and fill in the following information using your network username and password.
