TEACHERS/PARENTS
Activities or resources for home /class
http://www.miscositas.com/materials.html teacher resources to download/copy. Some
activities/resources useful for parents.






Dichos Dinamicos: Large print format posters of common sayings in Spanish.
Fun perhaps in grades 2 and up but could be used in K if read to students. They
might also be useful as an icebreaker at a parent meeting.
Sancocho Didactico: “Worksheets and templates”- not all are worksheets in the
traditional sense but guides to some fairly engaging activities. . Many are
“culturally appropriate”, for example, the “ofrendas” activity. Appropriate for a
variety of ages. Many activities would be useful for English-speaking parents
attempting to support their children learning Spanish.
Passwords Perfectos: nice mini-posters of key vocabulary for beginning Spanish
speakers:
Songs in Spanish: Not for primary.
Mi Abuela Ya No Esta: picture book related to Dia de los Muertos.
Celebrations: some good information but focus is USA or Europe. Sin embargo,
each celebration has a link to activities that could be used for other purposes.
Links to stories are disappointing: not interactive and some have no pictures.
http://www.kidlink.org/spanish/general/abstract.html looks promising did not have time
to explore much. May not be appropriate for K or 1 although some activities like: amigos
y familias could be done with assistance or used as springboard for creating an activity
for the class. All activities are interactive online. One very useful link from this site is:
www.elhuevodechocolate.com For example
 www.elhuevodechocolate.com/geograf/geograf2.htm:link to a site about
geography that includes the continent song en espanol, facts such as the
rainiest place, the driest place area of various lakes, oceans, heights of famous
water falls…a good place to have kids find information – in Spanish- for a
compare contrast unit in social studies/geography
 poesia para los ninos: poems by Spanish authors that are appropriate for kids
plus poems divided in thematic groups: the sea, mothers, curious poems,
sonnets…could be useful as an alternative or addition to teacher created
chants .
 buscadores para ninos: provides an opportunity to help even very young kids
find information they need or want en espanol. For example on
buscadorinfantil.com I found the link
www.todopapas.com/cuentos/cuento/LA-AVENTURA-DE-LOSANIMALES-DE-LA-SELVA-75.html by typing in “animales en la selva”.
However many of the “busquedas” only resulted in pages to color on the
topic so there is obviously the same issue as with any search engine.
Nevertheless all of these sites are en espanol.

 educared.net: The same search “animales en la selva” led to
http://www.salonhogar.com/ciencias/animales/index.htm
http://www.eduplace.com/graphicorganizer/spanish/. Multiple graphic organizers in
Spanish. Timelines, word webs, observation charts …
http://go.hrw.com/atlas/span_htm/world.htm. Maps with Spanish names for continents,
countries…
http://seeds.coedu.usf.edu/index2.htm
 Theme/temas: brief lesson plans organized around temas such as 100 days of
school, animals …Not for use “as is” but often include a good poem,
vocabulary list, pictures and links to related websites.
 Instructional activities: structured in the same manner as “temas” but first you
have to select the type of activity, for example, cloze, classification, jigsaw.
Preview carefully to avoid meaningless drill. Activities I have previewed in
both sections appear appropriate for primary.
 Grade level: variety of activities by grade level (some overlap with categories
above). In curriculum you can select, for example, SS or science activities (the
science does not necessarily align well with our kits)
 Macro skill: choose activities focused on a skill such as “listening”.

Sites Related To Language Teaching/Learning, FL Resources. Some have useful
classroom or student links.
http://www.nnell.org/resources.php National early language learning network: book
recommendations for FLES teachers, resources, quotes….
http://nclrc.org/teaching_materials/links_to_fl_materials/last_finds.html Mostly targeted
to teachers of “foreign languages” at various levels. However, there are some
potentially useful materials for “enrichment” in a variety of languages and the “culture
club” section provides some ideas that may spark thinking about appropriate activities to
help a school become more multicultural.
http://www.uni.edu/becker/Spanish3.html#games. Billed as “the best Spanish website"
with links to hundreds of other sites. Not very well organized. I have included some of
the best links above but did not have time to check out more than a few.
 Spanish pen pal: for secondary school or adults.
 Mexico: free electronic magazine that covers a variety of topics (for teacher or
parents for background information), some good maps, links to photos of places
in Mexico.
 America del sur: links to maps of various other countries
