Elimination
You can add or subtract equations in order to eliminate one variable.
**Once you have eliminated one
variable, solve for the other like
we did with Substitution!

Example 1 – Adding Equations
Solve by elimination. *look for variables with coefficients that
have the same base but opposite signs!
5x – 6y = 32
3x + 6y = 48

Example 2 – Subtracting Equations
Solve by elimination. *when the variables
have the same coefficient you can eliminate
using subtraction!
2x – 3y = 61
2x + y = 7
Dec 19:36 AM
Solve by elimination.
6x – 3y = 3
6x + 5y = 3
Dec 19:36 AM
2
Solve by elimination.
3x – y = 4
3x – y = 6

Example 3 – Multiplying One Equation
Solve by elimination.
2x + 5y = 22
10x + 3y = 22
Dec 19:36 AM
Example 4 – Multiplying Both Equations
Solve by elimination.
4x + 2y = 14
7x – 3y = 8
